Notes for MILDRENE COX from Billy Cox:

I visited with Mildrene on May 18, 2000 via phone at her home in
Cave Junction, Oregon.

Her address is: Mildrene Herbold, P.O. Box 1253, Cave Junction,
Oregon, 97523 Phone 541-592-4683

Mildrene thought her birth name was Black and she had been
adopted by Tom Cox and Iva Ferguson in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that was probably
her place of birth. She learned this infomation when she applied for a
passport. As of 5-18-2000 she did not know of Tom Cox's later family.

She thought she was adopted about 1928 or 1929.

Notes for MR. HERBOLD:

The Herbold Family was probably Morman and came from Utah to
California.

5.25.2000 from Holly Ferguson to Billy Cox
Hey! I spoke to Mildrine yesterday...boy is she feisty!!!
I found out John Alexander was a RR worker and was born 5/30/1877 and died on 1/3/49 in Los Angeles, Calif. That he had a drinking problem (vodka)...she said back then everyone drank.

She said she had red hair and that her original birth name was
Black. She has two girls, the oldest is Cheryl. The younger one has never
had children and has an 18 year relationship with a fella...not married.

She also said she was adopted in Tulsa, Oklahoma when she was 2
years old. She likes to read.

She said Elmer had 3 kids, Alan, Skis (Elmer Jr.) and Jack.

She said George Cornford was a truckdriver for Safeway and that
is why he got the nickname Speed.

Apparently Iva, Mildred and Wilma all lived side by side in
houses in Cave Junction. Also Jess's nickname was Jinx (which now I know why
one of his sons was called Jinkie!).

Apparently Thayl lived out of Taft, California which is near
Bakersfield. She had no children but married someone called John???? who had
3 children 2 boys and a girl. One of those boys worked for Mobile Oil and
died in Saudi Arabia.

Also apparently Wilma had 2 kids ....Janna and Lee (son).

She was very outspoken and said back then the Ferguson men
treated their women like "trash". Also they all would get together starting Friday nights for the
whole weekend and play cards (the women too!).

She mentioned something about a Fern Horst out of Claney,
Kansas, but now I forget what that was.

Anyway she said she was going to send some pictures and send me
anymore info
she could remember.

Hi Holly,

Robin Neill sent me a copy of your email and it sure sounds
interesting.

I don't know much about Iva, only family lore. She was married
to my dad, Tom Cox and had two adopted daughters, Lillian and Milderine.

I have a elderly cousin living in SE Kansas who remembers Iva
and the Children. In fact I have a picture of Iva and my dad, taken in
Oklahoma, and a picture of, at least Milderine. Lillan may be in the
picture also, with my elderly cousin, and other children, taken I think in
Caney, Kansas.

My dad was born in Newton County, Missouri and raised in the
area, including Barry County, Missouri. He was born in 1888.

My cousins think Tom and Iva may have been married in
California, but not sure. My dad apparently did a lot of traveling in his younger days.
They lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a while.

I have been trying to find information on Iva for quite a while.
Milderine and Lillan would be my adopted sisters.

If you can help anymore, I'd certainly like to hear from you.
Thanks in advance,
Billy Cox bcox1@kscable.com
