Birth: ABT. 10 OCT 1850 in Polk Co., TN (near Conasauga)

Note:
"Grandmother Rachel walked all the way from Tenn. because she would not ride in a wagon." --remembrance of Albert FLETCHER's son when he was a boy listening to his father and Louis Daniel FLETCHER talk about their own younger days as shared by Mrs. Exie Ussery, Norwood, MO, in a letter to us in the mid-1970s. Footnote: To help ease the burden of the animals pulling the wagons, everyone who was capable of doing so, did walk those many miles because the wagons (which weren't all that large) were filled with household goods and farm implements which in and of themselves were extremely heavy.
"We children have always been told that our Greatgrandmother Rachel was a Cherokee Indian however proofe I do not have. There used to be a man named FLY [probably Luther] that would come by and also a man named HARVEY [probably Clarence] that was hunting information." --courtesy Mrs. Exie Ussery, Norwood, MO, in a letter to us in the mid-1970s.
Rachel GROGAN FLETCHER born in Tenn. 10 Oct. 1853, died 20 Dec. 1925. Married Wilton FLETCHER 7 May 1871 / they had the joy of a long life together, he only going 2-1/2 months before her / and 10 of their children are living, most of them were at her side. / Aunt Rachel as we all liked to call her professed faith in Christ and joined the Whetstone Free Will Baptist church at an early age living faithful until death called her to her reward. --Copy of Obituary of Rachel Grogan, typescript courtesy Mrs. Exie Ussery, Norwood, MO, with the typescript of the Fletcher family Bible enclosed with a letter to us in the mid-1970s.
Rachel Fletcher's death certificate from the Missouri State Board of Health has her Date of Death as Dec. 20, 1925, age 72 years, 2 months, 10 days, which converts to October 10, 1853. Her stated Date of Birth is Oct. 10, 1853. Rachel was not listed with her parents in the 1850 census because she was born after that census was recorded. The 1860 census has her as age 10, younger than sister Catherine age 12, and older than brother David age 7. The 1900 census records her month and year of birth as May 1850 which is not correct because she would have been included in the 1850 census if it were.
