Note: David was identified as "dumb" by the 1860 census enumerator, common 19th century terminology for the deaf. Nothing further is known about David. It's logical to assume that if David was deaf as was indicated in 1860, he would be with one of his family after his parents died because, based on 19th century attitudes toward the deaf, he would have needed a caretaker throughout his life.
