Greetings All, from Cliff Fiveash,
The FIVEASH SURNAME is very unique and rare in the World. It is a name of English\Norman origin. It *is not* Irish, German, French or North American Indian. It absolutely *did not* come from a Pioneer family in Texas, who, hearing a crying sound in the night, investigated and found an abandoned baby, in swaddling clothes, lying in the midst of five "ash" trees and decided to name him FIVEASH.
The first known Fiveash that arrived in North America was Francis Fiveash, who arrived in James City, Virginia, July 20,1639, on a ship,transported by Thomas Gray, also of Virginia. Francis paid for his passage to the "new world" by indenturing himself for a certain period of time to the Ship's Master, a common practice during those times. I have searched Ships Passenger lists and other immigration records for nigh onto 20 years and have not found another FIVEASH who immigrated to the United States, before or after the Revolutionary War. For this reason and until I find or am shown evidence to the contrary, I am operating on the assumption,that ALL FIVEASHES, who were born within the borders of the United States, are descended from FRANCIS FIVEASH and are therefore,DIRECTLY RELATED. A great number of us "COUSINS" HAVE NEVER MET......and that is a shame. It is also the reason that I took it upon myself to undertake the creation of the FIVEASH FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INTERNATIONAL and make its presence known to the World, on the Internet, in the form of two mailing lists (see description, below) and this, "under construction", FIVEASH FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INTERNATIONAL, Web Page.
Cousin, Nancy Parr (granddaughter of Charlton Augustus Fiveash Sr.),in 1998, consented to and assisted in getting things going. Nancy has served as Hostess for the mailing lists and organizational things for the Association.

1. FIVEASH-FAMILY-ASSOCIATION-L: This is a "Private" mailing list for members of the FIVEASH FAMILY ASSOCIATION, who have Internet access and/or E-mail accounts. It is for conducting Association business and coordinating data gathering and indexing projects being considered or undertaken by family members, for placement on the,Internet, for free use by the members and the general public. Subscription to the list and Association Membership are free. Requests should be made to the Listowner.

2. FIVEASH-L: This is a mailing list, for the discussion and sharing of Genealogical and Historical information regarding the FIVEASH Surname and any variations, thereof (eg. Subscribers are therefore encouraged to submit Family Stories or "Legends", Census Data, Tax Lists, Wills, Land Records, Cemetery Information and Miscellaneous items.
