Notes for R
OBERT CARPENTER:
A husbandman who bequeathed sheep to his children: William, Thomas, John, Ambrose, Christopher, Agnes, Alice and Elizabeth Carpenter.

He bequeathed money to Salisbury Cathedral where his father had been Vicar General to the Bishop of Salisbury.

Will information: "Carpyntar, Robert of Eskydmore Upton; husbandman. Will dated or proved 25 Jun 1545. Reference Book 1 folio 77."

Raymond G. Carpenter believes that one of the sons above other than William was the father of Alexander Carpenter of Bath, England, and Leyden, Holland, and grandfather of Alice Carpenter who married Edward Southworth in 1613 and then, after being widowed, came to America where she married Gov. William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony in 1623. However, another record (AF) indicates Alice, her father Alexander then her grandfather William (born 1520 of Norton Cannon) then to John of Wrington (b. 1495) and James of Homme (b. 1460) and William of Homme (b. 1440) et cetera.

Notes for W
ILLIAM BRADFORD:
The ship 'Anne' arrived in Plymouth in July, 1623 accompanied by the Little James, bringing new settlers along with many of the wives and children that had been left behind in Leyden when the Mayflower departed in 1620. This ship passenger list is reconstructed from the 1623 Division of Land, the passenger list compiled by Charles Banks in Planters of the Commonwealth, and the research found in Eugene Aubrey Stratton's Plymouth Colony: Its History and Its People, 1620-1691.

William Bradford, Governor of Plymouth Colony, the son of William and Alice (Hanson) Bradford, was born in Austerfield (Yorks) England 1589. He moved to Holland c.1600 as a religious Separatist/Dissenter where he married, 1613, Dorothy May (1597-1620), having one son, John. William and Dorothy sailed
to Plymouth via MAYFLOWER in 1620, sans John. Dorothy fell or jumped off the ship anchored in Cape Cod and drowned. Shortly after his arrival at Plymouth, William was elected Governor of the Colony. In 1623 William married Alice Carpenter-Southworth (1590-1670), who had arrived in Plymouth, sans her two
Southworth sons, via the ANNE in that same year. William and Alice had three children: two sons and one daughter. William died in 1699.
