Notes for MARY MANCHESTER CARPENTER: The following is the obituary notice of Mary M. Dinsmore: "The death of the late Mary M. Dinsmore, wife of James Dinsmore of Hopkins, demands more than a simple announcement. She came here in May, 1883, from Montpelier, Vt. to take the management and care of his extensive household, and of his wife, an elder sister of hers, who after 30 years of household duties had suddenly been wholly incapacitated by a stroke of paralysis. Mary was then the picture of health and strength and had never been under the care of the doctor from infancy. She had lived in Montpelier for more than a quarter of a century and had been an active member of the First Congregational Church there. For 14 months after coming she did the double duty of housekeeper for Mr. Dinsmore and was head nurse for his first wife. Immediately after her marriage she transferred her church connection from the First Congregational Church in Montpelier, Vt. to that of the First Congregational Church in Sterling. She was a model Christian, a model housekeeper and a model wife." |
