bullet Alda Bert ZEIGLER was born on 30 Jan 1883 in Newtown Twp., Livingston Co., IL. She died on 2 Apr 1972 in Weld Co., Greeley, CO. Shortly after Alda and David were married in Blackstone, Illinois, they moved to Missouri where he worked for the railroad. In 1914 they moved to Sterling, Colorado, where they farmed. David became disabled in 1929 (diabetes). They moved to Greeley, Colorado, in 1938. Alda worked as a cook at the hospital for many years. She and her daughter, Vernald, helped support David and the house at 2139 7th Avenue (circa 1930). She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.

Alda was a quiet, hard-working woman with strong resolve and a faithful mother. She was a great cook and all enjoyed her Thanksgiving turkey. However, I could never fully appreciate those dinners when I would ponder the piles of dishes to be washed and dried. Fond memories of childhood encompass the times shared with grandparents and aunt at their home.

On Easter Sunday, April 2, 1972, while waiting for family to visit, Alda said she was tired and would nap until they arrived; she died while resting at the age of 88 years. Alda and David are buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, CO. Parents: Benjamin Franklin ZEIGLER and Mary Catherine KUNS.

bulletBenjamin Franklin ZEIGLER was born on 29 Apr 1871 in Newtown Twp., Livingston Co., IL.(1538) History of Winnebago and Hancock Counties, Iowa, The Pioneer Publ. Co., Chicago 1917:

BENJAMIN F. ZEIGLER. Progressive farming finds an advocate and a representative in Benjamin F. Zeigler, who since 1904 has made his home upon a farm of one hundred and eighty acres on section 2, Magor township. He was born April 29, 1870, in Livingston county, Illinois, a son of Jacob and Margaret (Fleischman) Zeigler, who were natives of Pennsylvania and of Indiana respectively.
Reared upon the old homestead farm in his native state, Benjamin F. Zeigler had the usual experiences of the farm boy who divides his time between the work of the schoolroom and of the fields. He continued his studies in the district schools until he reached the age of sixteen years, after which he devoted his entire time for two years to work upon the old homestead. He was then employed by others as a farm hand for two years, after which he rented the old home place for a similar period. His father then purchased three hundred and twenty acres of land on section 18, Amsterdam Township, Hancock County, and he cultivated that farm for a time. In 1904, however, he purchased his present place of one hundred and eighty acres on section 2, Magor Township, and here he is carefully tilling the soil and also is engaged in the raising of Duroc hogs. He has good improvements upon the place and it is his intention to breed his stock up to higher standards. In a word, he is actuated by a progressive spirit in all his business methods and the results which he is achieving are satisfactory.
On the 6th of October, 1896, Mr. Zeigler was married to Miss Luella Dibler, a daughter of James and Eva (Meyers) Dibler. Mrs. Zeigler is a native of Ogle county Illinois, and by her marriage has become the mother of a son and a daughter, Vernon James and Alice, both at home.
The parents are members of the United Brethren church and Mr. Zeigler is a republican in his political views but has never been active as an office seeker. He has always given his attention to farm work and he thoroughly understands every phase of the business. His diligence and determination are among his leading characteristics and have enabled him to work his way upward to success. Parents: Jacob ZEIGLER and Mary FLESHMAN .

"Effie Z. Weaver interestingly related some of the early history of family members as was told to her by her father, George B. Zeigler. There were three brothers in the original family, George, Chris and William Henry and they lived in New York. George a wealthy man, tall and hair-lipped came to Ohio to live.
