"Rev. William Brown was the eighth bishop of the United Brethren Church. He was the son of Peter Brown who was Margaret Brown Hoobler's brother. The Browns were every bit as involved in the U. B. Church as the Hooblers and Fetterhoffs and they were all very close. John Fetterhoff mentions William Brown all through his diary. They also had their German ancestries in common and did much of their preaching in German."

In 1834, when on a visit to his father, the Bishop entered a piece of land in Benton County, Indiana. In 1838 he left Baltimore, Maryland, and came to Benton County, Indiana, to reside. While here he traveled several circuits and was presiding Elder a portion of the time, but during the last year sustained a local relation to the Church. While he did this, he was preaching more or less all the time. He died of congestion of the liver. There was no funeral discourse preached at the time of his burial, as he always opposed such services, believing this to be improper.

One of his nieces speaks of him thus: "He was a very tender and affectionate uncle, whom all dearly loved. . . . In his old age he went back to Pennsylvania and Maryland, where his family lived. When he returned and rehearsed the glad meetings he had with old friends, his great heart would melt and his voice choke for utterance." Parents: Peter BROWN and Susannah KERN.

Christian BRUNER was born on 13 May 1799 in PA. He died on 13 Sep 1868 in Tama Co., IA. Christian Bruner emigrated with his parents to Fairfield Co., OH, from PA when he was six years old. His first wife, Rebecca Faust, was a native of OH. Her parents had settled in Fairfield Co. before the location of the state capitol. By his marriage to Rebecca, they had seven children. Rebecca died in Ohio and Christian married a widow, Mrs. Sophia Buzzard Lance who had 5 children by a former union. As there were 7 children by this marriage, the combined household numbered 21 members. Some of the children married and remained in OH, but when the family started for the far West in wagons, it made quite a colony in itself. The start west was made in the fall of 1851 and were joined by Peter Overmire and family (5 children) and the Widow Hill and family. Peter Overmire's wife was Elizabeth Hill. David F. Bruner's wife was also a Hill--Catherine. Christian settled in Howard Twp and erected the first sawmill. Christian prospered in worldly things, but was a firm supporter of the church and moral institutions. Jacob , Sr. BRUNER was born about 1750 in Germany or PA. Jacob spoke fluent German; it is not know if he was born in PA or Germany. On Census surveys, some of his children said their father was foreign born. His grave in Halter Cemetery is one of the two oldest (oldest is daughter-in-law, Rebecca). With his spouse, Christina, he lived in PA, prior to 1805; they moved to Fairfield Co., OH from 1806 to 1823; then moved to Sandusky/Seneca Co. Christina probably died in Fairfield Co.
