In June 1663, baby Sara was taken in a raid by the Minnisink Indians along with her mother. They were to be burned together until Sara's mother, Catherine, began singing--the Indians listened. This delayed their deaths long enough for her husband and Captain Kreiger's company of Manhattan soldiers to rescue them on September 3, 1663.
