Benjamin DUNKELBERGER was born in 1793.⁽⁴²¹⁾ He died in 1857. (Dunkelbergers of America, 1992): "Benjamin was born in 1793. On April 30, 1808, Benjamin was a communicant at Zion's church, Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA. In the War of 1812, Benjamin was listed in the Landisburg Volunteers, Infantry Company, Cumberland Co., in 1814, John Creigh, Captain. Benjamin married Mary Elizabeth Harmony, 1793-1860. She and the wife of Solomon, Benjamin's brother, were probably sisters and daughters of John Harmony, a neighbor of John Dunkelberger. John Harmony and his wife, Eleanor, were buried at St. Peter's Union Church, Perry Co. the tombstone reads: Johannes Hermanny, August 26, 1754-April 9, 1818. Eleanor died April 8, 1839 in her 78th year. In 1837, Benjamin bought land in Lockport, NY, and in 1838 he had a warrantee for 159 acres of land in Perry Co., PA. He probably moved to Lockport in 1828, along with his brother, Solomon. Benjamin's line shortened their name to Dunkelberg. Benjamin died in 1857 and was buried at Dysinger Corners in Lockport." Christopher DUNKELBERGER was born about 1749 in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA.⁽⁴²³⁾⁽⁹⁾ He died before 2 Mar 1835.⁽⁹⁾ "Christopher paid his taxes in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA, in 1773 and 1774. In 1773 he purchased a lot in the newly-formed town of Sunbury, PA. In 1776, Christopher obtained a warrant on a lot in Sunbury. From 1777 onward, he and Elizabeth were members of Himmel Union. The first baptism of their child took place in 1777. In 1778 he began paying taxes in Northumbrland Co. On May 4, 1785, "Christian" Dunkelberger applied for a warrant for 80 3/4 acres on Mahony Creek. It was granted in 1806. In 1786, Christopher paid taxes on 100 acres in Little Mahoney Twp. On June 6, 1821, Christopher and Catherine, his second wife, sold 100 acres of land in Delaware Co., OH, to his son-in-law, Daniel Gattshall, who had moved there in 1822 or 1823.

Christopher was buried with his first wife, Elizabeth Hill, on his farm. His will was filed on March 2, 1835, and listed as his heirs his wife, Catherine, and 12 surviving children: Abraham, Susannah, Catherine, Ester, Salome, Elizabeth, Henry, Magdalena, Frederick, John, Peter, and Hannah. Abraham was made executor; however, Abraham predeceased his father and much litigation ensured. Most of Christopher's children had moved on to Ohio and were well established there before he died, as can be seen in the 1830 census of Marion Co., OH. Abraham was probably made the executor because he was the only son of Christopher and Catherine and was still in Northumberland Co." (Dunkelbergers in America, 1992). Clement DUNKELBERGER was born in 1705 in Solingen, Germany.⁽⁴²¹⁾ He died in 1782 in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA.⁽⁴²⁵⁾ "Clemens/Clement/Clementz was baptized in Solingen, Germany, on June 3, 1705. On August 24, 1728, Clemens, then 23 years old, arrived in America with his brothers, Peter, Frederick, and Abraham, and probably his father, mother, and sisters on the ship Mortonhouse. Palatines were on this ship. Clemens signed his own name on the ship roster. On January 4, 1734, Clement applied for a warrant on 86 plus acres in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., PA. In 1735 Clement was taxed on 100 acres of land in the warranties of Philadelphia. In 1764 he, along with Frederick Dunkelberger and Catherine Hauer attended the Dunkel's or Moselem church. In 1765, Clement was included in a list of foreigners naturalized by the Supreme Court at Philadelphia. He took the required oath on September 15, 1765. In 1768, on the propietary return of Windsor Twp., Clement had 100 acres, 2 horses, 3 cattle, and for that paid a tax of one pound. . . . When Clement arrived in America, he carried with him a Martin Luther New Testament which he declared was to be passed down in the family to each firstborn son [it is currently in Lansing, Michigan]. . . . No burial place has ever been located for Clement or Anna Maria. It was common practice to bury on the family land. One can only list time of death by court records." (From Dunkelbergs in America)

From "Historical and Biographical Annals of Berks County," p. 1706: "The Dunkelberger family had its early home in Wurtemberg, Germany, whence came Clement (or Clementz), Daniel and John. They sailed from Rheinfels, on the English ship "Molhouse," landing at Philadelphia Aug. 28, 1728, and located a little north of what is now Hamburg, in Berks county. Clement Dunkelberger immediately paid tax to the English crown. When he died in 1782, his home was in Windsor township. His will made Feb. 12, 1776, was probated April 8, 1782, and is on record in Will Book B, page 38. At the time the will was made his wife Anna Maria was still living. Their children were: Clemens, who obtained the plantation, Catharine, m. to Andrew Winiger; Mrs. John Deck; John; Frederick; Christopher; Elizabeth, m. to Michael Deck; Philip; Sevila; Magdalena and Dorotha. Clement , Jr. DUNKELBERGER died in 1801.⁽⁴²¹⁾ He was born.⁽⁴²¹⁾ "Dunkelbergers in America" information from Dan Dunkelberger: "In 1782, Clement, Jr. inherited his father's estate and in 1784, he paid tax in Berks Co. on 200 acres which was the size of his father's farm. In 1787, he paid non-resident taxes on 300 acres in Mahanoy Twp., Northumberland Co., PA. He held 1/2 share of land south of Trevorton, PA. Clemens, Sr. stipualted in his will taht Clement, Jr. was to pay off the other heirs. Clement, Jr. was a private in the Revolutionary War, serving with the Berks Co. Militia. He received 470 pounds of depreciation pay when he was discharged. He was reported to have fought in the battles of Germantown, Brandywine, White Marsh, and Valley Forge. . . . There are many gaps in the information on Clement, Jr.'s children. It is believed that he and Anna Maria had 12 and possibly 14 children. A number of Dunkelberger children were confirmed at St. Paul's/Smoke church." Parents: Clement DUNKELBERGER and Anna Maria HAUER.
