bullet Catherine ENGLEBRECHT was born in 1805. She died in 1885. (Monocacy and Catoctin: Some Early Settlers of Frederick and Carroll counties, MD and Adams county, PA, also Descendants c 1725-1985, Vol I, C. E. Schildknecht, Editor, p. 361, Cartys of Frederick): "A son of William P. and Hallie was one of early Frederick's most popular citizens, the tobacconist and musician, Joseph W. L. Carty. His first wife was Margaret Catherine Hardt (1825-50), a daughter of John Hardt, born 1801, and Catherine Engelbrecht (1805-85) (a sister of diarist Jacob Engelbrecht). John Hardt's father was Peter (1776-1821); his mother was Charlotte Doll (1773-1845), daughter of patriot Joseph Doll (1747-1819). The Doll family had come from southern Germany.
Catherine Engelbrecht's father, (John) Conrad (1758-1819), was a native of the tiny village of Eichig, northwest of Bayreuth. He served in the Bayreuth Regiment for the British in the Rev. War and was imprisoned in the Hessian Barracks at Frederick after the victory of the French and Americans at Yorktown. Catherine's mother was Anna Margaret Houx or Haux (1761-1836) whose father was Theodore Houx (1725-1802), who had married Anna Maria Federhof (1731-1811) in Germany. Theodore and Anna Maria had emigrated first to near Keedysville in Washington Co., but soon moved in 1761 to Fredericktown, where he was the Lutheran Schoolmaster. In this case we know the parents of the emigrants, namely Joseph and Maria (Schmidt) Haux of Pflummern near Saalgau, and Johan Jacob and Agnes Federof. Margaret Catherine (Hardt) Carty died at 25, leaving sons Charles, Clarence and Arthur (who died at age two)." Parents: Johan Conrad ENGLEBRECHT and Margreth HAUX.

Children were: Margaret Catherine HARDT.
