He was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church in Missal. Was a strong supporter and attended summer meetings. Some camped on the beautifully wooded grounds while worshipping in the large tent with its sawdust trails and rough benches. Wilder died a few days short of 89 years, just before his birthday May 17, 1953 at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator, IL. Services were held at the Wagner Funeral Home with burial in Phillips Cemetery."
