"Andrew Penland was born in Buncombe county, North Carolina, April 13, 1807; Died July 26, 1899, at Tracy, Iowa. Aged 92 years, 3 months 7 days. He removed to Preble County, Ohio, with his parents at the age of 26 years. Here he grew to manhood and was married to Sarah Ashby in 1827. To this union was born 12 children, all of who have preceded him to the better land except two--Alexander and E. B. Penland. His wife passed into the beyond in Berrion County, Michigan, in 1847. He was married to Ester Johnson in Cass county, Mich. in 1850, removed to Marion county, Iowa, in 1852. To this union was born Andrew J. Penland of Osborne county, Kan., and Mrs. F. F. Doughman of Tracy, Iowa, with whom he has made his home since 1889. He had been quite feeble for sometime. His last visit away from home having been made two years ago last June. For the last six months he has been confined to his bed. His suffering at time was very severe, but he was patient and resigned to God's will through it all. He professed faith in Christ in early life. His last church connection with with United Brethren. He seemed perfectly conscious when the end came and fell asleep in Jesus. The funeral services were conducted from the Tracy M. E. Church at 11 a.m. July 22, 1909, by Rev. J. B. Hill of Agency a Superannuate of the Iowa Conference."

Andrew b 1807, mar. 1st in Wayne Co., Ind. Aug. 2, 1827 Sarah Ashby, dau. of Rev. soldier Bladen Ashby and Catherine Van Meter, their first child Alexander b Sept. 17, 1828 in Ohio (Preble Co.?). Andrew and Sarah moved to Cass Co. Mich. in 1830's where a large family was born to them, Sarah died Oct 31, 1847 in Michigan and Andrew mar. 2nd Easter Pemberton, widow of Rev. James Johnson and dau. of Jos. Pemberton & Eleanor Ashby. They later moved to Marion Co., Iowa and are buried in Bellefontaine Cem. near Tracy, Iowa.
