John Hirum SAILOR was born in 1853. Parents: Levi SAILOR and Rachel ZEIGLER.

Levi SAILOR was born about 1824 in Cumberland Co., PA. He died on 12 Oct 1899 in Pine Village, IN. Warren Review, October 19, 1899:

Levi Sailor Dead. Passed Away at his Home in Pine Village Last Thursday Morning. He was an old resident. For the past year Uncle Levi Sailor, of Pine Village, father of our former townsman L. A. Sailor, who now resides on the Gemmer farm has been suffering with Bright's disease and for several weeks past it was generally known that death was near at hand. Uncle Levi was one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Warren county. He was born near Carlisle, Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, where he resided until he obtained his majority and soon after was married to Miss Rachael Zeigler, the event taking place on Feb. 17, 1847. In 1855 Mr. and Mrs. Sailor came west and settled in fountain county, where they remained for sixteen years when they moved to Warren county living on a farm south of Pine Village until about four years ago when they moved to the Village. To Mr. and Mrs. Sailor were born eight children, four sons and four daughters; three of the daughters died in childhood. Ira E., of Pine Village; Dr. John H., of Covington; L. Addison, of Williamsport; J. Calvin, of Cissna Park, Ill; and Mrs. Effie Rhode, of Winthrop and the mother survive the husband and father. The funeral occurred at Pine Village last Saturday at 1:30 o'clock. It was conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. J. J. Thompson, assisted by Rev. J. M. Williams. The remains were laid at rest in the Quaker cemetery three and one-half miles south of Pine Village. Uncle Levi Sailor had always been a hard working man up to the time he left the farm and through his industry and economy accumulated a snug fortune. He was a true husband and a model father. Surely he will be greatly missed by all the family and the community in which he resided as well, but he has gone to his reward and his good works follow him. Peace to his ashes.
