"Born after the Civil War, she was the eldest child of Mrs. and Mrs. Hampton Getty Hall. As my great grandfather's people were noted for culture and brilliance of mind, my great grandmother's people were noted for their beauty. My great grandmother was a very beautiful woman. She married Bernard Austin Shields, and attorney at law in Marion, Ohio, at the age of eightee. Six children were born to them. She passed away many years ago in Newark, Ohio." per Edna Pearle Shields Palmer.
