SEVENTH GENERATION

68. * Thomas CRIBBENS (178)(179) (58). According to the tax roll in Monroe County, Arkansas of 1837-38-39, Thomas is listed as having land along with L.D. or J.D. Cribbens and Samuel Cribbens all living on the same piece of land. Also found him living in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The following is just some of what we have learned about him: Thomas was not one to stay in one place long, this made tracing his family more difficult. He may have been more of a hunter/trapper than a farmer. Thomas was given land in Arkansas for his services as a soldier that escorted the Cherokee Indian tribes to the Oklahoma reservation. This was also known as the "Trail of Tears". Because of the lose of lives it could be that Jerusha (she later married Thomas son) was an Indian child left orphan, and was taken home by Thomas. Thomas had a wife with small children, Jerusha could have helped in the home. Later she married his son Dow (John Dawson Cribbens). Because before 1850 it is hard to find anything for sure because many things were not written down, or in the south they were destroyed during the Civil War. He was married to * Jane DAWSON.

69. * Jane DAWSON. Children were:

child34 i. * John Dawson "Dow" CRIBBENS.
child ii. Samuel CRIBBENS was born in 1810 in Buncombe County, NC. Found Samual in Monroe County, Arkansas in 1837-38-39 tax rolls. He was also in the 1850 Census in Perry County, Arkansas.
