7066. * John STITH I

(284)(285) was born in 1638
in England. He was the 1st. American England before 1656. He died in 1693 in
Charles City County, VA. John came from England. to Virginia., ante 1656; with
Samuel Earle. He had a land grant of 550 acres on north side of James River,
in Charles City Co., Virginia., 1663; also had grants in 1664 and 1675; purchased
other tracts. At the time of his death, he left a large landed estate. He was
a Lieutenant of the Charles City Co. militia, 1656, a Captain, 1676, a Major,
1680. He served as a magistrate and lawyer; burgess, 1685-86, 1692; sheriff,
1691.
The road situation was a problem in Charles City County, as it was in Corline,
and everywhere in the colony. As early as 1688, John Hamlin was paid 200 pounds
of tobacco by the court for having kept the bridge to Taylor's Mill in repair
for two years. He was assigned to go with Captain Daniel Luellen and Captain
John Stith to inspect the horse bridge across the Chickahominy River, and see
that it had been properly constructed.
Joseph Mosby will was recorded in Prince George County on June 13, 1727. He
left his wife 15 pounds that was in her father's hands, six pistols, that were
in the hands of John Stith, and an entry of 250 acres "that is still in
the Land Book".
He was married to * Jane MOSBY in Dec 1656 in Charles City County, VA.
7067. * Jane MOSBY was born in 1624 in England. She died in 1686.

in Virginia. He died before 1724 in Charles City County, VA. He reached the
rank of Captian during the American Revolution. Found him listed as being of
Balderlin County, Georgia.
