warrant issued Feb. 3 1930, by Judge C.W. Ryan, sent J.F. "Buck" Sheets
to the Brown county jail Friday night. Sheets was arrested in 1929 on charges
of failure to support his 4 children, George, Leroy, Josephine, John. He was
found guilty of the charge but paroled, ordered to pay $15 a month for the support
of the children. In November of 1929 the court told Sheets that if he didn't
make the required payments her parole would be revoked. He failed to report
at the following February term of court so his parole was revoked, a bench warrant
issued for his arrest, but for some reason the warrant was not served. Friday
afternoon at 5 o'clock Judge Ryan asked Sheriff J. H. Mellenbruch about the matter.
The sheriff said he had never had such a warrant, no one could be found, so
a copy of the old warrant which had never been returned, was drawn up. Undersheriff
W. H. Downey arrested Sheets at a farm near Everest 7 hours later, ending the
delay of more than 3 years in bringing about the arrest.
