4. * Cordon Elsworth GIFFORD

Canyon, ID.(5) On Sept 16th 1863 the Cherokee
Outlet was opened for run. There were 100,000 persons on the starting line.
Two of these people were Cordon Gifford (25) and his brother Charley Gifford
(who had just turned 23, 2 days before). There were certain places you could
start the run from and Caldwell, Kansas is where they were. When the run began
the two boys started out on horseback. Their father, Oscar then took a covered
wagon with all their belongings and headed for Ponca City. after the boys staked
their claims they had to ride to Ponca City to file them. There they met their
father and then showed him where the homestead was. He was married to * Lillie
May NORRIS on 14 Apr 1901 in Woodward County, OK. 5.
* Lillie May NORRIS was born on 26 May 1879 in

of lye soap the his mother was making. He burned to death.

(16) She grew up in Emmett, Idaho. After she was married she lived
on a ranch in Big Bend near Adrian, Oregon, until 1973 when they retired and
moved to Caldwell. Angie was active in church and community affairs in Adrian
and Caldwell. She was a member of the Association of Retarded Citizens, the
First Christian Church, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Retired Seniors Volunteer
Program.

was filed. Family members are the only source of their death, other than an
unmarked grave in the Filer Cemetery bought by Cordon Gifford.
Orrin and Ora Gifford; Twins, they both died shortly after birth and they were
buried in an unmarked grave bought by Cordon Gifford. When we talked to the sexton
who he thought that Cordon was burred in the grave. He believes that they were
in wooden coffins because the grave had caved in and were being filled in with
dirt. There may have been a wooden marker, but is no longer in existence.
She was buried in Filer Cemetery, Filer, Twin Falls, ID. She is the Twin of
