Abney Family of Alabama

Updated September 27, 2001

About Our Family Research

My Abney family has ended with my family. There are no men to carry on the name. It ended with my brother, Durrell Abney.
We have a family reunion on the Pike side of the family each year in Sept. in Geraldine, AL. A cousin of mine is researching the Pike family and I have been researching the Abney, Rains, Jolly, and their ancestors for about 3 years.
I owe a lot of thanks to Robert Abney of the Abney Centralized Archives, Clay Abney who has done a lot of research, Johnny Abney of Albertville, who spent many days over the years going through the records in the Marshall County courthouse. Also, I would like to thank Jim Rees of Arizona for the help that he offered.
I owe the most to my mother Mozelle Pike (Abney)who talked about her family and my father's family all of my life. She is the one that inspired me to put it all together. My mom went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2001. Life will never be the same without her, as she was a wonderful source of information and memories, and love. My grandmother Comilla (Rains) Abney's family bible came to me with names and dates that was very helpful. I would like to thank the people who have posted infomation on the web so that I might have a way to compare my notes.
It is a shame that my son is not an Abney, because he and his wife are having their 4th boy in Feb. 2002.
If we don't have anything in this world, we have a family.
