NMG 4/26/2008 -- I did some looking in the Maine State Archives and found Uncle Ed's Birth Certificate. His date of birth is 5/23/1924. Born in Randolph Maine. He is listed as the 6th son however I believe it is the 6th child (Iva, Irene, John, Mel, Nancy). This verifies the second birth certificate.
