Joseph Luke Brown (son of Edmund Curtis Brown and Letha Jane Hearne) was born 27 Jun 1893 in Brown Station, Boone County, MO, and died 14 Jul 1979 in Mexico, MO. He married Rosalie Crews on 02 Feb 1915 in Columbia, MO, daughter of John Thomas Crews and Rebecca Susan Gammon.

Mary Fenton (Joseph Luke's younger sister) wrote the following in her family history book:
"I was just five years old when Luke married so there are only two things I remember about him before he married. One was sitting in my high chair across the eating table from Luke and Jack and they would make funny faces at me. The other was seeing Luke shaving his face on Sunday mornings and I would always ask, "Where are you going?" and he would say, "I'm going to take the train and go see Rose". He would ride horseback to Brown Station and board the train there.
After Elvin and I were old enough to make a visit alone we would spend a week with Rose and Luke in Mexico at separate times. Elvin would always get homesick. I didn't get homesick as I enjoyed playing with Becky and Helen. When I got old enough to help Rose I remember ironing the many matching dresses and bloomers the girls wore. I never saw so many. Sometimes I would be there during the 4th of July and Luke would always buy me a bunch of fireworks just like he bought the girls and we would put them out in separate piles, each having our own. One time I visited there, Rose insisted I should come to have my tonsils removed so I was one among several she helped to get the tonsils out.
I was unable to attend Luke's funeral as he passed away 4 days before Atlee died and Atlee was too sick for me to leave him.
