Barteld (Barelds) birth certificate says he was born in Tjalleberd, although his parents were living in Luinjeberd at the time. He was living in Nijehaske at the time of his marriage. His Militia Certificate states that he had served for five years and that he was honorably discharged.

Albert's Militia Certificate, dated 18 Oct. 1833, said he did not have to serve as his number did not come up. His birth certificate gives his date of birth as 4 Aug. 1821. The Household Register for Luinjeberd for 1872-1880 shows his birth date as 9 Sep 1821, and the Household Register for 1890-1920 for Tjalleberd shows it as 3 Aug. 1821.

The Household Register for Luinjeberd for 1872-1880 lists Aaltje's birth date as 10 Apr 1816, which does not agree with her birth certificate.

At the time of their daughter Femmigje's marriage to Arent Alberts van der Wal, Jan was still living, but Catharina had died in 1853. At the time of their own marriage, a certificate of insolvency had been issued for Catharina in Nijehaske on 18 April 1840 and one had been issued for Jan in Aengwirden on 4 April 1840. Banns for their marriage were published on 26 April and 3 May 1840.
