Mary Anne Dodds (daughter of Mark Dodds and Emma Legg) was born 16 Jan 1898 in Shoreditch, London, England¹⁷, and died 21 Mar 1970 in Chipstead, Surrey, England¹⁸. She married George William Grantham on 08 Jul 1922 in Manchester, Lancashire, England¹⁹, son of George Grantham and Sabina Bowker.

Mary Ann came to Manchester from London when very young, about 3 or 4 yrs old. Her sister Alice was not born at this time.

Mary Ann worked in the co-op in Middleton Junction in the jam making section. Bob thinks she worked in munitions during the war. Also worked at an upholsterers near AVROES at Middleton Junction. She also worked with Ida at a firm in Oldham that manufactured gas mantles, one of the last firms doing so.

When first married lived in Harper Huy (other spelling might be Harper Hay or Harpur Hay or Huy) and had rooms there. Ended up in a council house in Pentland Ave. Had to move as they were dobbed in for having a lodger. After this they went back to Hugo St. Once husband George regained employment, they moved into 19 Scholes Drive in 1940. When Aunty Annie died they moved next door into her house at 21 Scholes Drive.
