Jack Kennedy (b. Abt. 1899, d. date unknown)

Jack Kennedy was born Abt. 1899, and died date unknown. He married Alice Dodds, daughter of Mark Dodds and Emma Legg.

'Old Jack' was older than wife Alice. He should have been 18 years old in 1918 as he served in first world war.

He came from around Moston.

Bob Butcher says Jack served in WWI - possibly the Cheshire or Lancashire Fusliers due to his shortness. Refered to as the 'Bantam Battalion' as standard height was only 5' 4".

Jack also served in WWII. He was actually over the age but volunteered. Alice was put out by this and during WWII while Jack was on duty overseas she determined to "enjoy" herself which Ida states she accomplished successfully with American soldiers!

Jack was a 'bit of a lad' with the ladies. Prior to WWII Alice was under the thumb and Ida remembers her mum having to go and ask Jack if Alice was allowed to go out as her mum was allowed out by her dad. Alice was not game to ask for herself due to refusal. After WWII the roles were reversed and Alice was definately in charge.

Not clear what he did for a crust after army service. Was a care taker once he retired - two different locations. The last one was at Warner House in Warner Place London. Always seemed to have good furniture and not short of a quid etc. Always seemed to have money during the depression.

They had a black and white T.V. and he was constantly fiddling with it. Had a screen overlay with a blue band at the top and different colours further down green, and brown(?) or red(?). Placed over the T.V. screen and "come and see our colour T.V.!

In 1947 Ida saw him at the marriage of 'young Jack'. At that time She thinks he was working on a farm.
Bob seemed to think he worked in a dock operating company following on from experience with Royal Engineers. Not sure of this.
