Descendants of Abel * BROTHERTON

Generation No. 1

1.  ABEL *2 BROTHERTON  (JOHN *1) was born August 16, 1797 in NY, Schoharie County>Genesee Co,NY>Vigo Co, IN, and died April 27, 1850 in Vigo Co.,IN.  He married SARAH * WELPTON 1817 in Sharon, NY (Northern Schoharie Co) ?, daughter of RICHARD WELPTON and RACHEL BUTLER.  She was born May 5, 1800 in NY - or WEPTON / WEBTON, etc. ?, and died May 11, 1859 in Vigo Co.IN-one researcher has maiden n. JESSUP.

Notes for ABEL * BROTHERTON:

All accounts thus far indicate Abel left NY to move to Indiana between 1822 and 1826.  We believe he was born in or near Sharon, NY, Shoharie Co. and was a farmer.  I have visited he and Sarah's graves in North Terre Haute at a picturesque little known cemetary (well hidden, yet close to major thouroughfares.)  The dates would suggest that James Smith B. was about  4 to 6 years old in the move to Indiana and his much younger brother John A. was still 15-19 years yet to be born.

Mrs. Audrey Woodruff's (of Independence, MO)  records make a statement that I did not previously recognize in that in 1830, Vigo Co. Abel & Sarah lived next door to possible Sarah's Father (presumably) Richard WEBTON!  She also makes note of the fact that there is an Abel Brotherton shown in Lawrence Twp, Dearborn County, Indiana on the 1820 census - Page 102, but that she doesn't think that is the same one, I believe because it lists him as being 26 or older in that census (b.1794).    Initially I thought on the contrary it was likely it is our Able and that they probably left NY to Dearborn Co. before going on to Vigo Co.    On the other hand she notes on other of her letters that she believes perhaps this is the same Able.    Of course we find John (possibly Abel's Father?) Brotherton living in Washington Co. IN in 1820 -census page 218.    Also there is no solid proof of Able's birthdate of 1797, in fact his obituary says he was 56 when he died in 1850, which would have made him 26 in 1820, if he were in fact born about 1794.  Thus I suspected that was the more accurate date. I also erroneously presumed it was likely that Abel migrated to Indiana at about the same time as John but initially settled in a different county (Dearborn instead of Washington Co.). I thought it likely that he went on West following his father, who likely died about that time and thus by 1822 he continued Westward to Vigo County. (good theory?) -mag   There is a possibility of 2 other sons for Abel and that is Truman (on a Vigo Co. census and Charles who 2 of his descendants believe that he is also Able & Sarah's son, whom they say was born 1819.   My opinion is that James Smith and Possibly these last two men were all 3 Abel's but from a first wife, whom we've never yet heard of and with maiden name likely to be SMITH.  Furthermore I personally suspect that Abel could have married Sarah in Dearborn Co.- or Vigo Co.   Part of my reasoning comes from the 11 year or more gap between the birth of James and Richard W. (but of course these other 2 sons may have been born between them.  And it would seem to me very strange to name a kid SMITH, unless it was the Mother's maiden name.  (also it is of course possible that it was James' GrandMother's maiden name.   I've been unable to reach the 2 descendants of Charles Brotherton, b.1819:  1.) Thomas Hauptmann, last known in Poplarville, MS.  and 2.) Kathy Westerhof (formerly last name Sufel?), last known in Davenport, IA.  These names given to me by Bob Brotherton of Brotherton Hunters, Spokane, WA.

I have communicated by email to a man who descended from Alexander BROTHERTON whom he says was born 1748, lived in NY before migrating as a loyalist to Canada late 1770s or early 1880s.  He remained there as did most of his children.  This researcher has no clue about Abel or John.    More recent letters from Charles' descendants tend to make me think that they are not connected unless as cousins to our Abel - but that they probably descend from another Abel (they believe the one in Dearborn Co,IN 1820 -and that Abel DID have a son Truman - but born much later than the other in 1823) - I now agree with the opinion that our Abel was not in Dearborn Co, or any other place in Indiana by 1820 - but was probably in Genesee Co, NY then.

April 2000.   I received a letter from Chad Welpton who has tracked some WEPTON / WELPTON names that seem to connect to Abel & Sarah.   This man gave me the much needed clue that humbled me greatly: - that is the fact that Able IS on the 1830 Vigo Co. Indiana census, page 76 - and that Richard WEPTON  is living on the same census next door as Audrey had said - however the INDEX shows Able then living in Clinton Co. Indiana instead of Vigo - but with the same Census page number of 76.  So, my mistake all these years was not just checking the Vigo Co census for that page number since the index just shows the wrong county.   Chad Weckler of New York also wrote me that Richard WELPTON is on the Vigo Co, 1820 census, but I don't have access to that census here.   Chad also mentions that Richard WELPTON moved to Vigo Co about 1816.   See notes on Richard Webton (who I will initially show as Sarah's Father til I receive more information on him).   This census tends to dispel theories above about Able having children by another wife, such as Truman or Charles.   This is because the census shows children of exactly the age groups and in correct numbers at that time for just Richard W. (in the <5y.o. group) and James S. in the 10-14 age group in 1830 - AND NO other children yet for Able & Sarah.  It also lists he and Sarah in the 30-39 age group, lending more crediblity that Sarah was born in 1800 rather than the later dates.   It shows Richard Wepton living next door in the 50-59 bracket but his wife to be in the 40-49 bracket.   This doesn't remove the possibility that Richard Wepton was a 20 year older brother, but I think makes it more likely it is her father with the mother being 16 to 18 years older than a daughter, Sarah - probably 46 to 49 year old while Sarah was 30 years old.   Of course Richard also could just be a Cousin or Uncle of Sarah instead or either Father or Brother.    Now, this same Vigo County 1830 census shows a Truman brotherton on census page 83 then age 20-29  (the index shows Clinton Co., like Abel) - This seems very likely to be a brother of Ables.   On the 1840 census Truman, age 30-39 is found living in Knox County (Co. seat Vincennes) just 2 counties south of Vigo Co.  - BUT by 1850 there is NO Truman BROTHERTON in Indiana - however there is a Sarah F. BROTHERTON, 10 y.o., living with a WILSON family in Knox Co. -  But it turns out the woman the 10 y.o. is living with is her older sister, Barbara Brotherton age 18, then married to James Wilson - documented with the older sister's marriage March 30, 1848.   By 1850 Truman had moved one County West to Lawrence Co, Illinois - that is the last census I can find him on. Truman is 45, living with No wife on the 1850 Lawrence Co, IL census but with children William 13 & John 11.   In addition then to Truman's presumed children Barbara-b.1832, William-b.1837, John-b.1839,  Sarah-b.1840 there is another likely daughter of Truman's:  Elizabeth who married John THORN -Dec. 27, 1841 also in Knox Co, IN  - I presume she was born 1824/25- Truman's first born?

Next, from the NY census records it appears we can narrow Abel's father down to FOUR men.

1790 - there were SIX Brotherton households in NY state:  Daniel on pg. 40, Eli- page 96, Elisha -pg.163, John Pg. 16, Micajah -pg. 46 & Zophar - Pg.96.

1800 By then, there were SEVEN  but  6 were all  in Schoharie Co =  Michael, Othaniel, William, Daniel, Esohar & Jeshiua.   The 7th was John in Ondandoga Co.   Of these 7 there are 4 that have children LESS than 10 Years old = Othaniel, Daniel, Joshua (or Jesuia) & John.    Able should fit in that category if he was born anytime between 1791 & 1800 (our dates range from 1794 to 97).

1810 - THREE Brotherton men were west in Genesee Co. (which is a county later broken up into much smaller counties with one smaller one, Genessee remaining later.  These 3 were John Pg.118, Micajah -Pg.123, & William -Pg.127.    The Pg. 118 is in Caledonia - now just South of Genessee Co. in Livingston Co, NY - John is on the same page we see Richard WELPTON at in 1810 also.   Also we still have a John in Onondago Co. -Pg.032.    Also in 1810 there were 2 in Schoharie Co. -none the same as 10 yrs. previous:  Nathan -Pg.066 &  Reuben- Pg.069.

1810 FEDERAL CENSUS - TOWN OF CALEDONIA, GENESEE COUNTY, NEW YORK

Pg 118 -BROTHERTON, John    11101-00100 - the second "1" is males age 11-15, possibly our Abel if born in 1897, or the first one if born 1894.

1820 - Abel on the Genesee Co, NY - see below July 2000 - this Abel defintely best fits ours and fits the history that he migrated to Indiana between 1822-26.

I still wonder if Abel didn't marry Sarah in Indiana despite what it says in the biography in Vigo Co. - Especially since I know now that Richard Welpton was in Vigo Co. at least a few years before Abel.   I therefore also still wonder if James Smith Brotherton was not of a different mother (earlier wife of Abel?).   There is now a significant argument for the Abel in Dearborn Co, Indiana to NOT be our Abel - at least according to the age brackets on that census.   There is on the other hand much support for the Dearborn Co, IN  Abel as the father of Charles Cronkite Brotherton & younger Truman, born 1823 (later in Ohio in 1850 as his descendants corroborate).   I think it is still likely the Two Abel men are cousins and that the two Truman's were also likely related.... and that we need to pursue that line of thought -

1830 - Vigo Co, - see Richard WEPTON, living next door to Abel then.

TRUMAN - continued -Mostly mysterious - The Truman born 1805 based on the Lawrence Co, IL  census of 1850 - across the Wabash River from Vincennes, Knox Co, IN - that was probably the one in Vigo Co. 1830 - but in Knox Co, Indiana (he married there in 1824, on the 1840 census there & divorced there in 1858 - AND then West in  Lawrence Co, IL in 1850 - was probably a brother to our Abel - BUT who were their parents ?

It is likely Abel's parents never left NY - except of course if Grandison is in fact our Abel's brother also - making John, Washington Co, IN- his father.

July 2000 - New evidence places Abel on the Genesee Co, 1820 census -this is the part of Genesee Co that is now  Wyoming Co.  Abel is in Middlebury Town(ship) - Townships in NY are apparently called Towns which is the Northern portion of Wyoming Co. - most significant is that a descendant of the Welpton family claimed that Richard Welpton came from near the town of Le Roy - in Genesee Co- this is in the present day Genesee Co, but on the Southern border  -only  two miles from Middlebury Twp, Wyoming Co.

Below is from the 1850 Census, Page 111A of Otter Creek Twp, Vigo Co. - Mary & Sara were married by then (Mary married Samuel K. ALLEN in 1844 & Sarah married Francis HICKOX (or HICKSON?) in 1849.

Notes for SARAH * WELPTON:

Sarah still remains a mystery, her Birthdate ranges from 1800 to 1807 & was allegedly born in New York, however I cannot find any listing for Webtons in New York in the 1800 census, nor for a Richard or Sarah Webton or Wepton in the CD-ROM NY quarterlies. The IL-IN early-1850 marriages CD-ROM shows a Butler WEPTON married a Nancy SHERMAN March 19, 1834 & a James WEPTON married Anna NORRIS Sept. 15, 1830 & Elizabeth WEPTON married  John L. BURGET April 25, 1829, and  Julia WEPTON married Adams W. GREGG on June 11, 1837.  All 4 marriages were in Vigo County.  It would seem likely that these 4 may have been Sarah's siblings or cousins, but at least this shows her surname in Vigo County suggesting her parents were probably there. I found a Nicholas WEBUN on the NY census of 1820 in Chautaqua Co., but none in 1810.  Also on some papers she is shown with maiden name WELPTON.

In April 2000, I was sent a letter written by Chad Weckler - then of NJ - but mailed to me by Faith Welpton, the widow of Pierce Welpton of Pebble Beach CA.

This letter suggests his belief that Richard Welpton's wife / Sarah's mother was Rachel BUTLER - I have asked Chad for the source of that information.

Below is the Vigo Co, Otter Crk. Twp. 1850 census, the first census that shows

Sarah and the children.   Mary & Sarah were married already; Abel had just died.

This last person, #21, was erased by the census taker - but left BP  as a ditto for Indiana  and  - although this doesn't show it, the actual census record shows the census taker wrote  "F" for female - the rest was totally illegible, but it was clear there was a name written in and erased.    I wonder if this was intended to be Catherine EARLY but someone changed their mind and was altered?

Notes for WILLIAM H. BROTHERTON:

In addition to the reference to him in John A's obit of 1903 stating John's brother William lived in Pueblo, CO - I've received this on an Email look-up:

The following is from the 1896 Pueblo City Directory:    Brotherton, W. H., stonemason, rms 35 S. Union ave.

The man found in Harrison Co, LaGrange Twp, Iowa in 1870, Page 056,  may or may not be the same man.   We are pretty certain the one in Pueblo, CO is but we have not reason other than the correct name for the one in Iowa.

March 2001 -I have found two references for Brotherton in Pueblo, CO - burials for 1.) William A. Brortheron, who died 9-10-1909, buried at Roselawn Cem. and a probable wife,  Juanitia Brotherton died 1-28-1929, buried at Moutain View Cem. in Pueblo.

Brotherton, William A. -  buried at Roselawn Cem Pueblo on 10-9-1909  This cemetery only lists the date of burial .....   so..... we don't know if he was buried Oct. 9 or  Sept. 10 ?

                vii.    ELIZABETH A. BROTHERTON, b. 1837, apparently also married a man named VAUGHN; d. Aft. 1903; m. A. HARRAP D. MILNS, April 9, 1891, This is probably her 2nd marriage; b. Abt. 1837.

viii.    HIRAM BROTHERTON, b. 1839, see More Notes; d. Aft. 1915, shown living in Winfield, Cowley Co, Kansas in 1903; m. SARAH JANE PATTON, February 21, 1865, Vigo Co, IN; b. Abt. 1840; d. October 7, 1870, Burlington, Burlington Twp, Coffey Co, KS.

Notes for HIRAM BROTHERTON:

His brother John's obituary lists Hiram living in Winfield, KS in 1903.   There is a Hiram Brotherton living in 1870 at Coffey Co, Kansas, Burlington Twp., census Pg.271 & a Hiram in 1860 at Butler Co, Iowa, Pittsford Twp, census Page 732. -  see notes on his brother William.

This next paragraph from an Email Lookup:

"Since you didn't have any tight dates, I started at the court house in the land deeds.  I hit it lucky!!  Tracking down Hiram Brotherton's land, which the

earliest purchase date seems to be 5 Nov. 1869 I came across that he was from Terre Haute, Ind.  In Misc. "B" book there is a affidavit dated 3 Aug 1887

concerning one of his pieces of land.  Hiram Brothern sold to his wife, Sarah Jane Brotherton 5 Oct 1870, block 41, lot 8, city of Burlington.  She died 7 Oct

1870 leaving no children.  He deed the land to R. B. Brotherton 15 June 1871 as he was her only heir and he was single.   There are no local newspapers surviving from that time so I couldn't find an obit for Sarah Jane.  (OOOOPS!! I forgot to check in the cemetery index to see if she's buried in the county.  I'll make a note to do that!) There are other Brothertons mentioned in the deed books, specifically on that same block 41, lot 8 a R. B. Brotherton and an Ida Brotherton. "

The obituary of another Brother, Richard W. Sr. - died 1915, says Hiram was still alive and in Wichita, KS then.

3.  MARY3 BROTHERTON (ABEL *2, JOHN *1) was born 1824 in NY - or 1823, and died in Most likely daughter of Abel, rather than Truman ?.  She married SAMUEL K. ALLEN March 14, 1844 in Vigo Co, IN.  He was born Abt. 1817 in Mass. - on 1850 Vigo Co Harrison Twp Cen. Note above Samuel K ALLEN, age 32, from MASS. -  Mary is perfect - born in NY, age 27 and since we know the marriage was early in 1844,  the oldest child being 6 fits perfectly - although we still can't prove she is Abel's daughter - could be Trumans, although Truman married in 1824 - making it more likely she is Abel's child.   Unfortunately in reviewing the 1840 vs the 1850 census for Abel & Truman they both show 2  daughters in 1840 that are not present on the 1850 census in the correct age brackets, so that cannot be used to support Mary & Sarah being daughters of Abel.  However 2 Brotherton girls of that era are shown married in Knox Co. as well as nearly the same time the two are married in Vigo Co. - I would presume that since Truman had moved to Knox Co by 1840 that both the Mary & Sarah are most likely daughters of Abel and NOT  Truman.    So far  Sarah can be linked to Abel better than this Mary because Sarah is on the 1860 census living with Richard Brotherton (presumably her brother).    I cannot find Mary on an 1860 census.   It should be noted that the only Samuel Allen I can find on an Indiana 1860 Indiana census is in Crawford Co (far Southern IL) - and he is a 9 year old.    The best way to solve this mystery is to simply find the marriage papers for Mary (& Sarah) to see if the parents are mentioned.

Notes for SAMUEL K. ALLEN:

These ALLEN families were all living within a few doors of each other on the 1830 census and all living a few houses from Truman BROTHERTON, also on page 83 -   However Abel B. and Richard Welpton were on Pg. 76 then.

4.  SARAH3 BROTHERTON (ABEL *2, JOHN *1) was born 1826 in Indiana.  She married FRANCIS C. HICKCOX June 7, 1849 in Vigo Co, IN.  He was born 1819 in Indiana -This may be shown as HICKOX, and died in See notes for Sarah - 1850 Census-Vigo Co, page 272A.

Note the above is the spelling shown here and for the spelling in 1840 as above for Francis' surname -  And in the 1860 census Sarah is apparently widowed, living with her just widowed brother Richard,   Her marriage is listed as HICKOX.    Doesn't however confirm she is a daughter of Abel or Truman, it does fit perfectly with the marriage in 1849 - no children yet - and does fit the migration of Abel as we have been led to believe they came to Indiana in 1826.   And since Truman had moved on to Knox County by 1840, it would seem both Sarah & Mary are Abel's daughters.

7.  JOHN * A.3 BROTHERTON (ABEL *2, JOHN *1) was born November 12, 1841 in Vigo County, Indiana, near Terre Haute, IN, and died June 14, 1903 in Mattoon, IL.  He married CATHERINE * A. EARLEY September 15, 1860 in North Okaw Township,  Coles Co. IL-Vo.B/Pg.212, daughter of WILLIAM EARLEY and RACHEL WITHAM.  She was born April 10, 1844 in Clark County, IN -North of Louisville, KY (or Vigo Co, IN)1, and died December 10, 1933 in Champaign, IL- while visiting daughter Eva Tiley2.

Notes for JOHN * A. BROTHERTON:

We believe John & his older brother James Smith Brotherton migrated to Coles Co.IL in 1859 shortly after their Mother died.  They were on the Illinois, Coles Co. 1860 Census living together - AND  Catherine EARLY was living with them as a housekeeper shortly before she married John !.  See scrapbook notes on his Father Able & Brother James S.

1870 census - roll 197, Page 268, Okaw Twp.

Notes for CATHERINE * A. EARLEY:

Died in Champaign when living or visiting her daughter Eva (BROTHERTON) TILEY, at 311 S. Randolph St., Champaign.  Two sources of Birth dates both 1844: her Death Certificate reads BORN March 5, 1844 but Obit reads April 10?; Also another DEATH date is: December 2,1934 (instead of 12-10-1933); Her Death certificate also gives the first evidence I have discovered of her Father's full name: William EARLEY, and states HE was born in INDIANA.  State of birth blanks for her Mother are filled out as: "Do not know"     Make sure you refer to my notes in her Father's scrapbook, which for now, I'm calling William EARLEY.

The Death Certificate says she died of Senility, General Exhaustion, Myocarditis; The certificate also gave me my first evidence for her middle initial "A."

Very interesting is the fact that I cannot find her on a census of 1850 - but she appears on the 1860 census in Coles County, IL living with James S. BROTHERTON, he then age 40, his wife Margaret, their 2 children Caroline 4, & Sarah 2 PLUS his brother John * BROTHERTON age 18.  James is listed as a farm tenent, John as a farm laborer & Catherine EARL 17 as a Domestic!  So possibly John met Catherine,  in Illinois after she was hired by James to help in the home.  - Or possibly Catherine came with them to Coles Co. and agreed to come from Indiana to be a domestic helper.   The latter is more likely as there is a story handed down that says Catherine was in a covered wagon on the trip the Brotherton brothers made from Vigo Co, IN to Coles Co. IN.   I now need to see if I can find an Earl, Earls or Early in the Illinois census, since previously I had been searching for her in Indiana.  Also see important notes regarding her in the NOTES regarding her Father Wm. Earley, and with notes on James Smith BROTHERTON.  Another important note is that her name appeared to be EARLS on her marriage cert.  Also on the 1860 census they had a hired hand living with them named Henry WINMAN, day laborer, born in Massachusetts.... Very close to what I believe to be Catherine's Mother's name of WHITAM.  I wonder then if this is a misspelled Uncle or cousin?   Ruth KNOX has passed on a story of one of their BROTHERTON families migrating with another related family, and that all the people in the non-BROTHERTON family died leaving only a daughter.  I'm suspicious this was the EARLEY family and that probably John & Smith BROTHERTON were coming to Illinois with the EARLEY family by Wagon from Terre Haute, and all the EARLEYs died (allegedly of smallpox... and that it was handed down that the BROTHERTONs kept the cause of death quiet to prevent need for them being quaranteened.)  Now this story could instead be about the HARTLEY side, but I believe it was the BROTHERTONs & EARLEYs.  It could also have been about Abel BROTHERTON, his parents and Sarah WEBTON's parents, with perhaps Sarah's family all dying? instead of the next generation (Catherine EARLEY).    Another possibly important note is a William EARLY marriage to Jane DUFFICY - in Vigo Co, April 23, 1840.   This could be Father of Catherine - although the Obit and Death cert. say born in Clark Co, Indiana.   However it is certainly likely a family member could have mixed this up for the information submitted to the death certificate - a very common source of error.   - And the Father, William could indeed have married earlier in 1826 then remarried in Vigo Co. - with Catherine being born 4 years after the 2nd marriage.  I cannot find this Early on a census in Vigo Co. - HOWEVER, there is a William EARLY on the 1840 census, Vigo Co, Harrison Twp.   There is a J.D. EARLY owning 3 parcels of land  very near (one is exactly adjacent to them) and on either side of the Abel/ Sarah Brotherton land in Terre Haute on an 1858 Platte Map - and that same name J.D. EARLY is in the census of Harrison Twp. of Vigo Co. -  in addition there is mysteriously a J.D. Earle owning 80 Acres a little over a mile West of John A. Brotherton on the 1869, North Okaw Twp, Coles Co, in 1869 - AND a J.D. EARLY owning another 80 acres on the same Platte Map about 2 miles NE of John Brotherton.   This would make me highly suspicious he is an older brother of Catherine - if it is the same J.D. Early then one of them is following the other.

This man J.D. below would be too old to be a brother and is not the right name for the father on her Death Cert. - but it fits the name of the man living adjacent to them on the 1858 census. - in addition J.D. EARLY owned at least two other parcels of land near Abel & Sarah in 58.

Which would fit the money he has here in the first family shown below, so if either J.D. or Walter below are relatives of hers, they are more likely William's brother, thus Catherine's Uncle.:

Here on 1850 Vigo Co, census page 186B, is Jane apparent widow of William ? - Her age and place

of birth Ireland (Dufficey is strongly Irish) and fact that children all born after 1840 would suggest that.

40  163  164 Early,  Jane  30   F   1,200   Ireland

41  163  164 Early,  Mary   7   F               Indiana

42  163  164 Early,  John   4   M              Indiana

If this above is Catherine's widowed mother, where is Catherine ? - she'd be about 6 yrs. old then. -

maybe she is the Female the census taker started to record in 1850 with Sarah Brotherton - at the

bottom of the Brotherton children on that census.

Notes for CHARLOTTE * "ANNA" HARTLEY:

Charlotte Ann's Obituary shows she & J.L. were living at 517 B, 22nd St. when the MVA occurred near Bethany, Friday Aug. 12.  She died at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL just after 12 MN on the 13th.  It verifies she was the only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George HARTLEY.  Apparently by then, Harry Hartley had moved back to Middletown, OH, even though their Mother died about 26 yrs earlier at Harry's home in Mattoon.  It says her brother Charles was still living out in Ogden, UT.  Pat Flesher tells me that Anna had a CVA several months before that auto accident and had started revovering when she was thrown about 50 feet out of the car after J.L. lost control of the auto when he hit an oil slick at the Dalton city curve.

Notes for EDNA * VIOLA BROTHERTON:

When I first met my wife's Grandmother, Edna in 1976, she was a very frail, small, friendly lady who lived in Decatur, IL. She had been widowed for 14 years by then and seemed quite capable of being independent and seemed to enjoy remaining so.  However, as she became older, and somewhat demented, her only living child, Kenneth (Ann's Uncle) moved her next door to he & his wife in Connecticut.  She continued to deteriorate and needed to be moved to a nursing home.  In her last 5 years she usually did not recognize her family, and had major medical problems, kept alive in an unnatural state by modern medicine.  She died after Kenneth elected to move her to Florida where they were also moving to.   -  Allan Griffith
