Larry Bowling- Pittsburgh, PA, and died Aft. November 21, 1793 in Berkeley Co,
VA. He married ROSANNA (?) FRYATT. She was born Abt. 1736.

Children of BARTHOLOMEW FRYATT
are:
3. i. ELIZABETH *3 FRYATT, b.
Abt. 1802, Ohio or Pennsylvania (census discrepancy); or Eliza.
4. ii. WILLIAM FRYATT, b. Abt. 1804, He is on the 1830 census in
Circleville, Pg. 53.; d. 1847, then is on the 1840 Parke Co, INdiana census..
Generation No. 3
3. ELIZABETH *3 FRYATT (BARTHOLOMEW2, BARTHOLOMEW1) was born Abt. 1802 in Ohio or Pennsylvania (census
discrepancy); or Eliza. She married JACOB * BURGET April 2,
1820 in Circleville, Pickaway Co, OH. He
was born Abt. 1800 in Pennsylvania (reported by Julia in census), and died in
These parents for the Burget's below are still speculated.
Notes for ELIZABETH * FRYATT:
There are 4 FRYATT
marriages listed in Pickaway County, OH:
1.) Eliza FRYATT to
Jacob BURGETT - April 1, 1820 (I think that is the certificate date, but the
marriage is on the 2nd)
2.) William FRYATT to
Deliah JUSTUS - Aug. 17, 1822
3.) Julia Ann FRYATT
to Mathias WHITESELL - April 2, 1835
4.) Rosannah FRYATT to
William HARPER - Oct. 20, 1835.
I assume all these
Fryatt's are siblings but I can only find evidence of William. Eliza had presumably died by 1850 census
when wives were named and given ages. I
need to search for the other two with Mathias WHITESELL & William HARPER -
but I cannot find them on any Pickaway Co. census. The name Julia Ann here, makes it
encouraging that Eliza Fryatt named her own daughter after other Julia Ann's in
the family, such as Eliza's younger sister ?
The below paragraph
was a note sent by Larry Bowling who believes he descends from an earlier
FRYATT of ours.
Here are the siblings
of Elizabeth and William Fryatt:
Margaret, Ann, Mary,
Robert, Edmond,
Bartholomew, John and Rosanna. My source
for this was a book titled
McConnell
Memorabilia. I have a copy and will
check for any other
information on
Bartholomew Fryatt over the weekend and let you know.
Notes for JACOB * BURGET:
There are 4 FRYATT
marriages listed in Pickaway County, OH:
1.) Eliza FRYATT to
Jacob BURGETT - April 1, 1820 (I think that is the certificate date, but the
marriage is on the 2nd)
I have no proof that
Julia Ann and the other 2 sibs were children of Eliza & Jacob BURGETT
(#1). But this is the only BURGETT -
FRYATT marriage I can find. I mention
that his father seems most likely to be either Joshua Sr. or Henry - however He
could be one of Joshua's 3 sons, George,
Joseph or Joshua Jr., as I cannot find their ages, just a statement in a brief
bio that Joshua Sr. came to that area of Ohio in 1804 with his 3 sons. Then I cannot find a remnant of any of those
names in the county census ever. Nor is
there mention how or if Henry Burget is
connected to Joshua. But Henry died
after 1835 as he is docmented in a bio as being alive still in 1836, but dying
soon thereafter, I presume in 1836 or 37.
Henry is mentioned as being from Virginia - which James Burget claims
his father came from. Wish I could
find where Joshua came from - if Pennsylvania, then I would guess this is the
line for Julia Ann since she gave that as the her father's BP on the 1880 &
1900 census.
I'm not sure how to
connect these below with our Jacob - ?
5 Aug 1838 Jacob
Burget and wife May of Pickaway Co., OH, sold 74 acres in Darby Twp to John
Reaher of Pickaway. (This is probably the son, Jacob)
7 Sept 1838 Jacob
Burget and wife of Pickaway Co., OH signed over land and interest in 109 acres
"quit claim" to James Wells.
24 Dec 1834, Jacob
Burget's heirs deeded their interest in land to James Wells.
Heirs of Jacob Burget (who sold to James
Wells) were:
1. Jacob Burgett & wife Mary of
Pickaway
2. Zaduck & wife Charity Lewis of
Pickaway
3. Abner and wife Nancy Wells of
Pickaway
4. Abraham Burget (no residence
listed)
5. John & wife Elizabeth Miller
(no residence listed)
6. Thomas Burget
7. Solomon & wife Sarah M. Quinn
All deeds recorded 26 Oct.
1848
Another note found in
the Burget GenForum
I found Sarah, Cassa & Rachel's father
in the Genealogical Index to Chancery Books 1823-1840 Franklin Co., OH, Court
of Common Pleas, compiled 1987 by the Franklin County Genealogical Society!
In Vol. 3 of the
Chancery Books, on pages 48-50, there must be an entry about the estate of
George Burgett, who was "of Pickaway County" and died intestate in
1825. His heirs are listed and are:
1) Cassandra Burgett,
daughter & heir, w/o Wm. B. Hurley,
2) Eli Burgett, son
& heir
3) Hulda Burgett,
daughter & heir
4) Jacob Burgett, son
& heir
5) John Burgett, son
& heir
6) Mary, heir (my
note: is this his widow??)
7) Mary Ann Burgett,
daughter & heir
8) Rachel Burgett,
daughter & heir, wife of Thomas Call
10) Sarah Burgett,
daughter & heir.
I think that George
might be a brother to my gggrandfather, John Burgett, who came from Pickaway
County and settled in Tippecanoe County. I'll be in touch.

So, it appears from
others studies we have a Jacob, s/o Jacob and a Jacob s/o George - both of whom
would fit the age group of the one that married Elizabeth. Assuming the one s/o Jacob is not Elizabeth
Fryatt's husband because his wife is the one who married Mary - then the one
who is shown as George's may be more likely.

and JACOB BURGET are:
i. JANE4 BURGET, b.

1870, She is on the 1850 & 60 census with Wm. - but not 1870; m. WILLIAM R. DUVALL, August

5. ii. BARTHOLOMEW F. BURGET, b. 1829, OH- on 1850 census living with Andrew
Duvall & Cynthia; d. April 23, 1865, Potomac River - Civil war - Company D-
Ohio 180 Inf..
iii. SARAH BURGET, b. December 1830, Pickaway Co., OH-
or1834; moved to Cisco, IL 1901; d.
March 13, 1904, Cisco,IL; lived at St. Paul, OH; body sent back to OH; m. ANDREW R. DUVALL, Bet.
1850 - 1861, This was his 2nd wife (#1=Cynthia LOVE); b. October 23, 1818,
Ohio; d. January 13, 1875.
Notes for SARAH BURGET:
A phone book entry
belonging to Ann's Grandmother Julia Ann (Stuckey) Calhoun remarks that Julia
Ann Burgett's sister was Sarah Jane Katherine DUVALL, living in Sugar Camp,
OH. However, I think Julia Ann
BURGET had a sister named Jane who
married William DUVALL - and a sister name Sarah who was the 2nd wife of Andrew
DUVALL. Who knows, may she also had a
sister named Katherine also ? - as of Oct. 2000, I still can only find evidence
linking those two sisters as the only known siblings of Julia Ann BURGET - and
still no parents. Their is better
evidence proving Sarah is a sibling than Jane.
First their is the obituary of Julia Ann that states: Mrs. Peter Stuckey had one sister alive in
1903, that was Sarah J. Duvall. Granted
the "J" is used but I still think that Jane was a different
sister. The J may have been for Jennie
- rather than Jane. Sarah's obituary
from the Circleville Union Herald, March 17, 1904 reads:
"DIED IN
ILLINOIS - Body of Mrs. Sarah Duvall brought home for burial - Mrs.
Sarah Duvall, for many years a resident of St. Paul, this county died Sunday,
March 13th, in Cisco, IL - she was 86 years old
(ed. - this seems inflated and suggests she was born 1818 - all other
evidence suggests she was born between 1826-1834. However there is a wide divergence of
ages. Census in Pickaway Co, of 1860
& 70 show 26 & 27 respectively giving BDs of 1833/34. Yet her Death certificate claims she was 73
years & 4 months as of March 13, 1904, the date of death at December 1830
or possibly as late as January 1831.
Her obituary is most divergent saying 86 years in March 1904 > BD of
1818. I have used 1830 as the BD but I
believe anything from 1828 to 1834 is accurate.

Allan,
This is what I
have: I have a William Fryatt married
Delilah Justice in
Pickaway Co., OH on
Aug. 8, 1821. Then I have 1840 Parke
Co., IN census with
a William Fryatt with
1 male 5-10yrs; 3 males under 5yrs; 1 female 40-50yrs;
1 female 10-15yrs; and
1 female 5-10yrs. My theory is William
moved to Parke
Co, In, before 1850. I have 1850 Parke Co., IN census with a
Harriet Fryatt
age 20yrs living with
Acnilla Justus and family. (Spelling of Acnilla in
census was
mispelled--it should be Aquilla). This
fits in with the 1840
census and states
Harriet was born in OH. Also, 1850 Parke
Co., IN, census
has a Bartholomew
Fryatt, 8yrs, listed with a John Webster--Bartholomew was
listed as being born
in IN. I have a family history paper
from a lady who
descended from my
husband's gr-grandfather's brother's wife's side. (Did you
get that straight? Her
great grandmother was sister to my husband's
gr-grandfather's
sister-in-law.) Anyway, she said that my
husband's
great-grandfather,
Andrew Fryatt had the following siblings:
Morgan, Amanda,
William, and
Bartholomew. I still feel Harriet was
their oldest sibling.
The name Bartholomew
runs in the family. Also, the family
history stated
Andrew's parents both
died in 1847 on the same day and were buried in the
same day. The children were scattered among neighbors.
I feel that your
Elizabeth was a sister to William who married Delilah
Justice. I also feel that Bartholomew was their
father. I'm glad you wrote.
I didn't know she existed. I have e-mailed a man who had posted
something
on the LDS site about
Bartholomew. I'll let you know if he
contacts me. I
can't prove any of
this about William and your Elizabeth.
There just isn't
any other Fryatts I've
come across in OH to IN; and with the repeat of names,
I feel it has to fit.
I can send the
documentation of what I have if you like.
I'd like to have
what you have about
Elizabeth & Jacob. It's funny that
you are working on
your wife's side and
I'm working on my husband's. Let me know
if there's
anything I can do for
you.

Note, I have found
William at 2nd from the bottom of the 1830 census of Pickaway Co, OH -page 53 -

then listed as between ages 20 to under 30 with one son and one daughter each under
5 years - and a wife also between 20 to under 30 y.o.

April 23, 1865 in Potomac River - Civil war - Company D- Ohio 180 Inf.. He married ELIZABETH JANE PETERS
September 17, 1850 in Pickaway Co, OH, daughter of JOHN PETERS and JANE PETERS. She was born 1832.
Notes for BARTHOLOMEW F. BURGET:
official Civil War
Records show him drowning in the Patomac River when he was knocked off the ship
Massachusetts during a battle. His
civil war records show him from Ohio and with widow Elizabeth. I cannot prove he is Julia's brother, but
he is living 2 doors down from her when she was living with Jane Burget &
Wm. Duvall in 1850, then in 1860 was again living 2 doors down from Julia when
she was a new bride with Peter Stuckey.
I suspect his maternal Grandfather was Bartholomew FRYATT. Jacob is the only BURGET found in
Pickaway Co. with a son of that age group on the 1830 census.

January 1, 1842 in Circleville, Pickaway Co., Ohio, and died July 16, 1903 in
Cisco. She married PETER * LEWIS STUCKEY
September 30, 1858 in Pickaway Co.OH (per marriage lic. Age 16), son of JACOB STUCKEY and
CATHERINE BARTH. He was born February 6,
1836 in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany; or Berne,Switz., and died January 7, 1920 in
Kenosha, WI; Arr.USA @ age 7(1843); NOTES.
Notes for JULIA * ANN BURGET:
DID Julia and Peter
meet in an orphanage? - that seems to me to be the best explanation for the
lack of findings for both of them???
I am reasonably sure
that Julia's Father was one of 6 men:
James, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua Jr., John or George BURGET, and that her
paternal GF was Joshua Sr. or Henry.
Have not discovered anything definite about
ancestors or any other details of Julia;
The book HISTORY OF FRANKLIN & PICKAWAY COUNTIES, OHIO 1880 shows
several references to Burgett or Burget, but no Julia's - in fact only one
female Burget(t) reference.
The following are
listed there: Joshua Burgett, Sr. settled there by 1804 and had the following
children: Joshua, Jr., John, Mary Altha, George, Mrs.?. Another reference in the book says Joshua
Sr.settled in Harrison Twp, 1804 & had sons, Joshua, George & Joseph (I
don't know then if Joseph=John) More confusing is the finding in the Cerro
Gordo history 100 year history pamphlet a statement that Julia's maiden name
was Friatt? I can find plenty of Burgett
& Burget names in Ohio at that time,
but not one single Friatt...I wonder if that is her Mother's maiden name, or
more likely a simple typographical or other reporting error? The above Ohio history book goes into some
depth about several of these Burget/ts: Jacob BURGET was a surveyor (dates not
listed). Private James BURGET was in the
Civil War 12th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Company D, mustered into
service Nov. 24, 1863. Henry BURGET
came to Pickaway Co. from Hampshire Co. Virginia in 1811, and in 1812 bought
land just North of Circleville from a Mr. Denny. He lived there til 1836 when he moved to town & soon died. He had married a Mary Dickson in 1803 - 9
children 4 born in VA, 5 in OH. By 1883
all children were dead except 2 sons & 1 daugh: James & Washington
lived in Illinois & Sarah (BURGETT) SMITH -
Her husband Wm. D. SMITH, a farmer died in 1856 (she lived in
Circleville). There was a widow BURGETT
with a son Daniel & 4 daughters all living on Darby Creek. A Sarah BURGET was the 2nd wife of Andrew R.
DUVALL {THIS IS SIGNIFICANT IN THAT JULIA'S OBITUARY (July 23, 1903, The Piatt
Co. Republican newspaper) STATES SHE HAD A SURVIVING SISTER, SARAH J. DUVALL.,
it also says Julia was the youngest of 9 children} The book states Benjamin lived in Harrison,
OH but died in Shadeville, Franklin Co, OH.
BE CAREFUL, from the book it is confusing in that I can't tell with
certainty whether Julia's sister was married to Benjamin, Benjamin Jr. or to
Benjamin Sr's son Andrew R. I believe it
is saying she was the 2nd wife of Andrew R. DUVALL of Madison, OH.; Also there
is listed a John Burget who was on a jury in July 1810. Also there was an
Edward Cutler who had a son Enos who had a daughter who married a Mr. Burget of
Harrison, OH. I also have a copy of the
death certificate of both Julia Stuckey & Sarah Duvall, neither showing
names of parents that early (1903 & 1904)
Also I could not locate an obituary for Sarah Duvall in Monticello;
Sarah does have an obit from the Circleville newspaper that shows her body was
shipped back to Reber Hill Cem. near Ashville and that she had lived much of
her life in the tiny town near there of St. Paul.
Nov.1994: Both the 1880 & 1900 census
of Piatt County, IL says Julia's Father was born in Pennsylvania, her mother is
listed from Ohio as Julia is also shown from, but the 1900 census shows her
Mother from Pennsylvania like her Father (reporting conflict, likely caused by
Peter supplying her information one of those times?). I think her most likely Grand-Father
(possibly Father?) was Jacob Burget who is listed in the Pennsylvania census in
1800 in Bedford Co.; 1810 in York Co., PA (Washington Twp) p. 196 of the census;
and finally in 1820, back in Bedford Co., PA (St.Clair Twp.) P.039 of the
census. He is listed in the Ohio 1830
census (but no longer in Pennsylvania 1830 census) in Pickaway Co.Washington
Twp. p 033 (also there is a John Burget in the same Twp & on same census
page, and there are Henry & Thomas Burgett, Dor. Twp census P.118, also in
Pickaway Co.) Then in 1840 (2 years
before Julia's birth) there is only 1 Burget or Burgett listed from Pickaway
County - that is Jacob (p. 169, Harrison Twp.)
By 1850, the Ohio census shows 5 Burget heads of households residing in
Pickaway Co, Circleville Twp. Jacob W.
& Mary on census page 396, another Mary - p.393, Solomon - p.408, &
Washington - p.16. I have as yet not gotten any of the actual census', as all
these come from the census index books.
December 1994: I have located Julia A.
BURGET in the Ohio 1850 Pickaway County, Harrison Twp. census, Page 047, age 7,
living with a William & Jane Duvall ages 34 & 23, resp.; Of further
curiosity, within 2 census pages (a few blocks, or less?), there is a 21 year
old living as farm helper, named Bartholomew BURGET living with Andrew DUVALL,
age 30, and wife Cynthia, age 34 & 3 Duvall children.
I have a copy of Julia'a marriage certificate
which seems to imply she had a living Father who authorized the marriage to
Peter (since she was 16 y.o. and even then considered a minor), but neither the
Parents names nor signatures are on the certificate (I would presume this could
have been a step-father or possibly even a brother or brother-in-law posing as
the father.)
Unfortunately the Circleville newspaper
obituary notice for Sarah (BURGET) DUVALL did not mention anything about her
ancestors or descendants, it only contributed the name of her husband, Andrew
DUVALL - and two step-sons, Richard Duvall & Victor.
Also of possible interest is the marriage on
Aug. 23, 1846 of Wm.R.DUVALL to Jane BURGET - this is most important because
these two are shown as the householders that OUR Julia was living with in 1850!
(could this be another sister of Julia or possibly was Jane an Aunt? And there is a marriage of James BURGET and Sarah Ann CUTLER on Oct. 11,
1847...possibly Julia's older brother ?..( I doubt James would be a father
although his age in 1850 could allow that if it weren't for the statement that
Julia was the youngest of 9 children), they are shown with son Enos BURGET on
the same 1850 census page 047 as Julia , Jane & Wm.R.(3 doors away). Therefore I suspect that James, Sarah Jane,
& Julia were all sibs, and that both parents were likely dead by the time
she was 7 years old.(recall she was the youngest of 9 children.) Recall the mention of a widow Burget living
with her one son, Daniel & 4 daughters on Darby Creek .... one more sister
to find, if that is her family? However
if the name Daniel is correct, and there was only one son then obviously that
is not the correct family, since we are conjecturing her brother was the James
who lived near her. (Could have been
James Daniel Burget ?)
In October 2000, A real breakthrough arrived in an Email from
another Burget researcher who as yet has not connected to ours, but supplied me
with 3 Burget marriages in the time frame of ours and all in Pickaway Co, OH
- One of these showed a Jacob Burget
marrying Elizabeth FRYATT !! - This is
the 3rd reference to a FRIATT sounding name - but the only one that makes me
feel confident to connect them to ours..
More evidence is needed to be more comfortable with the
presumption. The other source was a
Cerro Gordo Centennial booklet that had a short biography of Sarah &
Alexander Perkins. In it it referred to
her Father, Peter Stuckey marrying Julia FRIATT. Until now, We could never put anything
meaningful to that Fryatt name except it was probably an error. There was one other reference to that name
in a History or Pickaway Co, OH text saying that a FRIATT man entered land -
didn't make a lot of sense, but does now lend more credence to the Friatt name
being in early Pickaway Co... presumably that man is likely Elizabeth FRIATT's
brother or Father, and Julia Ann's Grandfather or Uncle. By The way - BURGET(T) name whether spelled
with one or two "T"s allegedly stems from the European name of
BURGHARDT - and furthermore just in Pickaway County, I see it spelled Jacob BURGAT in 1830, Henry BUGET in 1830, etc.

Notes for PETER * LEWIS STUCKEY:
John R. Stuckey, of
Bloomington has spoken to Chas. & Ruth Stuckey of Lancaster, OH (Fairfield
Co. adjacent to Pickaway Co.) They apparently are descendants of Nick Stuckey,
brother of Peter. Unfortunately they knew
nothing of Nick's parents or siblings (they have always heard that Nicholas was
an orphan when he came to the U.S. & were unaware of the siblings. John R. does have a book entitled Cisco,
100th anniversary 1874-1974 which states Peter moved to Cisco from Ashville, OH
with his family, but does not give a date-I'll need to check the census records
from the Fairfield & Pickaway County, OH census records for 1850, 1860,
1870 to determine more about the migration of the Stuckeys) Ashville is just a
few miles North of Circleville, OH also in Pickaway Co. which is immediately
West of Fairfield Co. where Lancaster is located. Peter is shown in the 1880 census but not in
the 1870 Piatt co. census. The Cisco
book (I have since obtained) also says that Peter was born in Germany, but
migrated from Bern, Switzerland at the age of 7 with his parents, a brother
(presumably Nicholas) and 2 sisters (one is Sophia STUCKEY SACKRITER, the other
Catherine JOHNS.) Patricia Flesher has told me of a Sacriter relative living in
Decatur, IL but she was not certain of the connection. I would presume then that Sophia Sackriter
must have moved to central IL near the same time as her brother Peter and that
Harry Sackriter, Sr. (deceased) and his son Harry JR. are descendants of Sophia
and whoever her Sackriter husband was. I
have spoken to Harry Sackriter, Jr. who unfortunately knew nothing at all of
his ancestors; in fact he did not even know the name of his Grandfather
Sacriter! Apparently there are also
Perkins who are similar lineage descendants living in nearby Cerro Gordo, IL.,
& Milford, IL; John R.Stuckey has
spoken with the Perkins there and plans on meeting with them soon. (Dec 1992);
The book HISTORY OF PIATT COUNTY 1883 shows that a Sophia Stuckey married Harry
Sackriter in 1857. It also states that Harry moved to Goose Creek Twp, Piatt
Co. in 1864 & moved to Monticello in 1876, but no details about
Sophia. I visited the Croninger
Cemetary May 7, 1993 and found it with the help of Patricia Flesher. It is on
the West side of 100E road about 3 miles due south of Cisco, Their graves are
near the center of the Cemetary.
Apparently George Rocky must have moved to Monticello after he left his
family in Cisco. In November 1993 I
discovered a reference to Sarah Perkins & Mother Julia Burget on a Mormon
CD-ROM in the McClean Co., IL historical society library. This reference was written by a Mr. Richard
A. Perkins of 288 Westmoor Ave.,Newark OH 43055. He gives Julia Burget's BD as
1837 instead of 1842, & Peter's as 1833 but it surely must be the same
ones. On April 29, 1994, I mailed a
letter to Mr. Perkins requesting any further info he might have, and his
references for the CD-ROM material he contributed. Further research show this Richard Alex
PERKINS is the Grandson or Great-Grandson of Sarah Jane (STUCKEY) PERKINS,
which was George Rocky's Sister, but I have received no word from Richard A.
Perkins, so I assume he has moved or died, the CD-ROM oddly enough did not list
his birthdate....I believe his siblings or children, etc. live in Milford &
am trying to contact them. The census'
contradict the earlier dates, so I think their birthdates are correct as listed
1836 & 1842. Interestingly on both
the Piatt county 1900 & 1910 census Peter's widowed sister Catherine JOHNS
is shown living with Peter.
Nov 1994 - I've just visited the Monticello
Public Library; Numerous sources there, including books on the history of
Pickaway Co, OH - since it seems there was a migration of many people from
there to Piatt Co. IL for some reason?
History of Franklin & Pickaway Co.(Walnut Twp.) on Page 280 list an
Aaron Stuckey building a saw-mill at East Ringgold. Peter's Obituary in the Jan 15, 1920 Piatt
Co. Republican newspaper doesn't help much.
It does show that he died in Kenosha Wisconsin where he had been living
with his daughter Mrs. Loton Williams, apparently since 1918 when his sister
Catherine Johns died. The body was
shipped back to Cisco where he was buried at the Croninger Cemetary with wife
Julia. Incidentally Julia's obituary states she & Peter left Ohio to come
to Piatt County in 1864. Peter's death cert. says he was born in Germany (as
does the Piatt Co. Census) and that he came to the U.S. as a boy, but doesn't
say anything about his ancestors. One
surprise is that it repeatedly shows his middle initial as C. (I suspect an
error, since I'm certain his middle name was Lewis). The 1850 Ohio census shows a Peter Stuckey
living in Fulton Co., German Twp.(page 362B) age 42, AND it shows another Peter
Stuckey living with him age 14. That
would actually be the right age for our Peter AND Our Peter's death certficate
shows his Father as PETER Stuckey, and although the elder Peter in Fulton Co.
1850 was apparently married to a Catherine age 39 (Peter's death cert. showed
Mother was Catherine BARTH),
nevertheless the sibs of this younger Peter are not similar to the known
siblings of our Peter (Ann 19, Joseph 6, Christian 3, Barbara 2, & Mary
1.) One would wonder if this family was
not an Uncle Peter that our Peter was living with. I did locate Nicholas (age 19) in the 1860
census living in Farfield Co., (Lancaster) Bloom Twp. Roll 960. He was then shown rooming with another young
male, George Starling, age 18, both listed as Farm Laborers. Oddly I cannot find Peter anyplace in 1860,
Yet I had information that Peter did not migrate to Illinois until 1864. I should check an 1860 census for Indiana?
Peter & Julia's Marriage license shows
married in 1858 in Ohio.
March, 1995: I've finally received the death
certificate of Peter Lewis Stuckey.
Surprisingly it gives a different (than sister Catherine JOHN lists as
her Father: Jacob) 1st name for his Father: says same as his own name: Peter
Stuckey, birthplace for both Peter's and his Mother (all 3) as Germany, but no
city or area listed. If in fact his
Father was Peter then the two Peters listed in Fulton County with the right age
for Peter Jr. would fit perfectly but his sibs do not fit at all so will need
to track down more to determine if in fact that is ours.
The death certificate
lists Peter as a farmer and died of "old age (senility), contributory:
pneumonia". Place of death shown as
Somers Twp., Kenosha County, WI. I have
2 obituaries for Catherine Johns, one says she was born in Essex, Germany and
one says Alsace, France!....Now there is an ESSEN, Germany near the juncture of
the Rhur & Rhine rivers just NorthEast of Dusseldorf, but it is also likely
that the Essex was actually intended to be Alsace since they are phonetically
similar.
I have gotten a book on interlibrary loan
from Quincy IL library titled 30,000 names of immigrants (to Philadelphia), by
Prof. I. Daniel Rupp. this is the same
book that shows my ancestor Jacob Persinger, who also apparently came over from
the Palatine area of Germany-Switzerland.
This book shows several possible ancestors of Peter: Pg 213, but this
book has no immigrations later than 1774, so I doubt these are close relatives
of our Peter.
Best known chronology:
1836: Born near
France-German-Swiss borders (most likely Germany).
1843: Came to USA, age
7 allegedly with Parents, 1 Brother & 2 Sisters.
1858: Married Julia
Ann BURGET in Pickaway County, OH.
1861: 2nd child George
Rocky STUCKEY is born
1864: Moved from Ohio
to IL, may not have come to Cisco til
1876 ?
1903: Wife Julia Dies,
Julia's Sister, Sarah (DUVALL) living with them.
1904: Sarah DUVALL
dies in Cisco, Kathryn JOHNS comes to stay with Peter
1910: Peter & HIS
sister Kathryn JOHNS living together in Cisco (census)
1918: Kathryn JOHNS
dies @ Cisco, body sent to Ohio for burial
1920: Peter dies at
the home of his daughter Mrs. Loton Williams in WI.
Here is the confusing
1850 census of Fulton County, OH - Pg. 362B - that I think is just coincidental
but worth noting. The similarity is so
close - age of this Peter Jr. is exactly that of ours - Mother and Father's
names exactly as our Peter's children put on his Death Certificate. But none of these other children fit those
we believe are those of our Peter. Of
course it still may be our Peter and his parents - since we can't locate Peter
in 1850 anyplace else -and since it clearly seems that Peter came to the U.S.
in 1843 - and without his older sister, Catherine - who alleges in census she
came to the U.S. in 1835 - we have therefore
assumed it likely the children are broken up to other places since his
older sister was - it may be that our Peter's real parents died before 1850
& he was taken in by an Uncle & Aunt - and maybe that is who these are
and the other children are mistakenly put in as his sibs instead of cousins. That also would explain why some of the
others put down Jacob as a father, but Peter put down Peter as a father. Of course, this is all pure speculation w/o
more evidence. One task to pursue would
be to try to find these apparent siblings' descendants. -
There are several so it shouldn't be that difficult.

7. JAMES F.4 BURGET (ELIZABETH *3 FRYATT, BARTHOLOMEW2, BARTHOLOMEW1) was born
1821 in OH- he is not definitely proven to be Julia Ann's Brother, and died
Aft. 1880 in after 1880-was living 2 houses from Julia & Jane in 1850. He married SARAH ANN CUTLER October
11, 1847 in Pickaway Co, OH, daughter of ENOS CUTLER. She
was born 1825 in OH, and died Aft. 1880.
Notes for JAMES F. BURGET:
as of Nov. 2000, I cannot be certain this is Julia's
brother. He is living 2 doors from she
and Peter on the 1860 census, he then is 39 and from Ohio. He would fit as the first child of Jacob
& Eliza FRYATTs who were married in 1820.
The best argument AGAINST their
being siblings - at least from the same fathers is that Julia reports Her
father born in Pennsylvania on both the 1880 & 1900 census - wheras James
on the 1880 census reports his father being from Virginia. This would make it more likely that his
father is Henry as we know he came from Virginia in 1811 acc. to his bio. I cannot find anything that tells where
Joshua BURGET and his 3 sons were from - only that they came to the Ohio area
in 1804.

son of Henry BURGET, per 1830 census

Notes for GEORGE * ROCKY STUCKEY:
3 locations of
Birthplace for George Rocky: Robert
Stuckey of Bloomington, IL says in Lancaster, OH (which is in Fairfield Co),
Julia (Stuckey) Calhoun writes in her family record book that he was born in
Pennsylvania (her exact writing is "Penna."). Yet another source which I obtained initially
but for some reason have not recorded the source is in Pickaway County, OH,
which is the county immediately West of Fairfield Co. (Lancaster, OH). This needs to be pinned down in order to
study the Stuckey line further! I wonder
if the Lancaster may have actually been Lancaster, PA? Another possible date of birth is Sept 2
instead of 20th.
It should be noted
that there is a very nice photo on Page 207 of Glenna Mosgrove's book from
Musgrave to Mosgrove, on which I believe she has erroneously labled the people
of. She says the little girl sitting is
Emma Mosgrove & claims the adults are Emma's parents, but I believe that
the little girl sitting instead is Emma's child Julia Ann Stuckey and the adult
parents are George Rocky Stuckey & Emma Mosgrove Stuckey.

Notes for JULIA * ANN STUCKEY:
I remember Julia, my
Wife Ann Skinner's Maternal Grandmother very well, as we had been married 10
years when Julia died at age 94. Her 2nd
husband Ben had died just 15 months before she died. I knew Ben well, but I never met her 1st
husband, Richard Calhoun, as my wife Ann was only
14 when her maternal
GrandFather died of Leukemia. Julia was
a very intelligent, consientious & sweet old lady. She had a very good sense of humor, played
piano and loved to laugh. In her last
few years as her 2nd husband was weakening from Metastatic prostate cancer, she
became despondent and remained depressed in my opinion for the rest of her
life. - MAG
Notes for RICHARD * BUTLER CALHOUN:
Dick worked as an advertising manager for
the Bloomington Pantagraph & the Decatur Herald and later the
superintendent of the service dept. of the Decatur Review (his daughter
Patricia does not believe the latter...about the Review to be true). In 1919 he
owned the Calhoun Music Shop. In 1937 he
became the the head of the farm replacement for the Illinois State Employment
Service of the Illinois Dept. of Labor.
He continued this work until his death June 19, 1963.
His hobby was carving and fashioning
miniature furniture. He married Julia
Ann Stuckey in 1913. She was always a
lovely homemaker, wife and mother. She
gave her loveable attractive self to her family...their two daughters Suzanne
