Notes
Fell in love with the korean girls while he was a cook stationed in Korea. Was taken home by the girls to meet their mother who he married. He adopted the three kids.

Thaine was drafted into the army, and stayed in the army until retirement. While serving in Korea, he met and married Seong Yeo. He adopted her three children. They lived in Junction City while he was finishing his years of service stationed at Fort Riley. After his retirement, they moved to Arlington, California where he lived until his death in September 1978 due to a heart attack. His family continues to live in that area.

Notes
Donald met his wife, Evelyn Heller, while they were attending high school at Woodbine. Donald was drafted into the army. After seven or eight months, the government dischared the drafted married men so he returned home to work as a construction work and "finish" carpenter. After Work War II began, he was recalled to active service. This time, he elected to serve in the Navy. While in the Navy, he became ill with rheumatic fever, and has been in poor health ever since. After the death of his mother, Evelyn gave up her teaching, and they returned to the parental home to care for and provide for his father until his father passed away in 1965.

Donald served on board of trustees, stewards, and as Sunday School Superintendent. (Methodist Church of Lyona)

In later years, Donald became interested in building and playing the dulcimer - an Appalachian folk music instrument. To date, he has constructed 123, and they are owned by people thoughout the United States; several are in Canada and Labrador. This has proved to be a delighful hobby - making new friends and helping others find a worthwhile pastime.

During the high school years of some of the family, Max Jones provided a Model-T Ford, Donald Gugler drove, Ben Gugler provided whatever maintenance was required, Frank Janke supplied the gasoline and Donald provided early day "bus service" long before legislation provided or required school bus transportation. Gladys, Merle and Vera Gugler, Levine Janke, Arbutus Jones, Lois and Inez Staatz all rode to and from Woodbine High School with Donald in the Model T. There was singing and fun as they rode to school as well as when they ate sack lunches or lunch from the old gallon syrup buckets as they sat on Grandpa Sam Gugler's porch just three houses down the street from high school.

Alberta, the youngest of the Ben Gugler children, was a telephone operator employed by Sourhwestern Bell System until she retired in 1976. She met her husband, Gilbert Bein, in the Topeka area. Alberta became ill mith multiple sclerois and as an invalid residing at the Osage Manor, Osage City until her death.
