Word was received this week of the death of Albin Gustafson at Cambridge, Minnesota. Mr. Gustafson died monday evening from a heart attack. He is a brother of Carl Gustafson of Kiron and of Enard Gustafson of Arthur.

bullet Luverne Clara Gustafson was born on 22 May 1916 in Stockholm Twp, Crawford Co, Iowa. She was the sixth child of Carl Emil Gustafson and Amanda Elizabeth Lundberg. She had two older sisters, Mayme Mathilda and Florence Lorraine, and three older brothers, Ernest Emil, Vernal Severin, and Willard Oscar. Her grandfather, Johan Severin Gustafsson, lived with them and her morfar, Axel Frederick Lundberg, and her mormor Mathilda Othelia Lindblad, lived just a short mile away. Her farmor, Johanna Christina Axelsdotter, had passed away in 1891.

She was born in the Gustafson farmhome which is 1 mile north and 1 and 3/4 mile east of Kiron, Iowa. There is no record as to the origin of her name. However, her name was remembered and kept in the family through her cousin once removed, Luverne Turin born 7 months after her death.

She died on 24 Oct 1917 in Stockholm Twp, Crawford Co, Iowa. Dad told me that little LuVerne was outside picking flowers the day before she got sick with pneumonia. Dad could never get that image of his little sister out of his mind. To him, she was an angel. She died at her parents farm home 1 mile north and 1 and three fourths east of Kiron in Stockholm Township in Crawford County. She was buried about 26 Oct 1917 in Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. The following obituary appeared in the Kiron News paper and documents her life:

LaVurna Clara, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gustafson, was born May 22, 1916 and passed away Oct. 24th, 1917, at the age of 1 year, 5 months and 2 days. Her illness was of two weeks' duration and developed into pneumonia which resulted in her death. While her stay on earth was brief, she had entwined herself into the hearts of her loved ones, and leaves a vacant place in the home that connot be filled. The funeral services were held on Friday afternoon from the home attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Rev. Morton of the Baptist church conducted the services and the little form was laid to rest in the Kiron cemetery.

And bade it blossom there."
