Bernice Hillberg told me of the stories that were passed down about how devoted little Carli was toward his little sister Anna. Anna had unfortunately gotten out in the tall grass and was not seen when the weed mower came along and cut off both her feet. It was said that little Carli carried his little sister everywhere. There is a wonderful testimonial about Carli's devotion to his sister recorded by a visiting Ev. Free Minister. Ruby McFarland saw it and made a copy. It is worth collecting and preserving. Note that 1880 seems to be indicated in the 1900 census. Also, Wheeler township is sometimes seen. They probably lived in section 36 of Hayes twp. She died in 1950 in Odebolt, Sac Co, Iowa area. She was buried in 1950 in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. She was also known as Gertrude M. Lundberg. She was also known as Grada Gertrude Lundberg. Gertie is the same as Gertrude who married Nels Blumgren. Birth date has to be 1881 since mother didn't arrive until 1880. Parents: Nicholaus August Nicholasson Lundberg and Josephine Johanson.

She immigrated in 1867 to Michigan from Sweden. The Axel Lundberg family lived for a few years on North Manitou Island in Lake Michigan off the northwest coast of Michigan. Several Swedish families who eventually came to Kiron also were living there. (One interesting point to note is that several of these Swedish families on North Manitou or the nearby mainland had the surname of Lundberg when they arrived in Kiron. Did they take the name in Michigan or was it back in Sweden?)

Nicolaus was the first son to be born there. Gibberyd is in the Rumskulla parish in Kalmar Lan in Sweden. See page 39 for the birth record. The mother is 28 years old.

He immigrated in 1869 to Kiron Kountry from Sweden. He may have come with his brother to northern Michigan first. He died on 25 Feb 1907 in Odebolt, Sac Co, Iowa.
