Was an Officer in the Confederate Army and later served several terms in the South Carolina general Assembly (circa 1884). He first ran for Congress in 1872. Letters regarding this are on file with James Rion McKissick's papers (1884 - 1944) while he was at the university of S.C., II ms. vols., 1850 - 1945, 1974, 1978.
Manuscript Collection at the U.S.C. also includes 1861 letter to Governor F. W. Pickens re: orgaization of a troop of cavlry and 1871 letter re the timetable for testimony in the disputed election between McKissick and A.S.Wallace.
