James P. GRIFFIN, Sr. (son of Samuel GRIFFIN, Sr. and Elizabeth Abegail ST. CLAIR) was born 1762 in Georgia, and died 1837 in Washington County, Alabama. He married Susan BROWN on 1793 in Jackson County, Florida, daughter of James BROWN.

1.  Went to Alabama in 1809 to settle his brother, Samuel's will.  Never returned to Georgia.  Married again, had another family.  Bought land on the Tombigbee River.  Died in Washington County, Alabama in 1836.  Supposedly left will stating that his Georgia descendents had already received whatever inheirtance they should receive and his Alabama estate was to go to his second family.  In Georgia it rumored that he was killed in 1810 in Twiggs County, GA by indians.

1.  Left home in 1809 to go to Alabama and settle his brother's will (estate). Never came back to Georgia, stayed in Alabama, bought land on the Tombigbee River.  Married again and had more children.  Died in Washington County, Alabama in 1836, leaving will that stated the children of his first wife, Susan Brown Griffin had been left property in Georgia and had no rights to his Alabama estate.  The story was put out in Georgia that he had been killed in 1810 by indians in Twigg County, Georgia.  This story was proved to be false.
