162. Alexander Thomas BROWN (12) was born on 29 Aug 1849 in Tazewell Co., Virginia. He died on 14 Mar 1920 in San Diego, CA. Thomas went to Colorado and found employment as a water boy on the branch of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad then being constructed between Carson City and Denver. After nine months he returned to Sturart, IA and worked with his brother J.J. in his harness shop for a year. He then secured a postion in the machine shops of the C.R. I. &P R.R. being employed as a locomotive fireman. September1, 1876 he went to the Pacific coast to work as a brakeman on the Central Pacific R.R. ONe year later he returned to Chicago and the C.R.I. and P where he worked as a brakeman until December 1879. He then went to work for the C.M. & St.P. R.R. as a switchman and later as an engineer in the freight services and passenger service. Tom Brown was affiliated with Fort Dearborn division No. 294 Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and with the Humbolt Court Independent of Foresters.

He was married to Mary WEAVER on 16 Sep 1875. Mary WEAVER was born on 18 Jan 1854. She died on 25 Jan 1904. No issue, was railroad engineer.
