4. Phillip KNIPP ^{(1)(15) (16) (17)} was born about 1775 in Pa.. He died after 1850 in prob. Wythe Co.. 1850 census Wythe Co. Va gave age as 75 and birthplace as Pa. I had Phillip's wife as being Nancy, (probably from, Michael Rogers info) Clifton's has his wife as Catherine. Most researchers have that Phillip is Varner's son. However, the birthdates are only 10 years apart. Phillip is found signing various documents along with Varner which indicates that they were close kin and more likely to be brothers. Only further research may tell. The 1840 Wythe County Census lists his household with a male between the age of 70 to 80 and with a birthdate between 1760 to 1770.

He was married to Catherine LINDERMOOD before 1825. Catherine LINDERMOOD⁽¹⁾ was born in 1779 in NC. The Lindamood Family owned Land in Wythe County Virginia that adjoined that of Varner Knipp as evidenced by county deed records. Phillip KNIPP and Catherine LINDERMOOD had the following children:
