Sinking Springs, Green County, Tenn.. He was buried in Sinking Springs, Green
Co., Tenn.. In the late 1700's Varner, William, and John Knipp (May possibly
be other brother by the name of George) came to U.S. from Germany through Holland.
Varner Knipp was listed in the 23 April 1796 Wythe County, Virginia, tax records
as having no slaves, three horses and two males over age 16. (Possibly his brothers)
He was listed in the 1810 Wythe County, Virginia, Census. Verner moved from
Pennslyvania to Wythe County Va. Approximately 1810 to 1813 Verner sold his land
in VA and bought 150 acres in Green County Tenn. Verner's estate was settled
May 7, 1839, Green Co. Tenn. The Lutherian Church record shows Varner buried
at Sinking Springs Cemetery, Greenville, Green County, Tenn. Knipp could have
been spelled Knop(with two dots over the O in many old records, a variation
of spelling from Holland) Varner or his ancestors were originally from 30
miles northwest of Frankfort Germany in the Palantine Region. He married about
1783 to Christeener, born before 1765, location unknown. (Possibly Holland)
Knipp descendents still live in old Knipp homeplace built in the 1800's near
Greenville, Green County Tenn. Verner was included in the founders of the Lutherine

County Tennessee. Michael Rogers another Knipp descendent , researching the Knipps
believes that Varner's father came with him to America. He has his name as being
Christian Knipe and wife is Mary Wismer. Buried in PA in a Lutherian church
cemetery. Correspondence with other Knipp relatives indicate that there was a
younger Verner Knipp as evidenced by court records. Varner's name was listed
in Wythe County records sometimes with Sr. and Jr. Court records speak of a
younger Varner who was arrested for burning a neighbor's barn.
He was married to Christeener CHILDERS. Christeener
CHILDERS(1)
(13) was born about 1763. She died after 1830 in Sinking Springs,
Green Co., Tenn. She was buried in Sinking Springs, Green Co., Tenn. The Name
"Childers" is questionable and there are no records verifying it and
seems just to be handed down through some of the research. Verner KNIPP and
Christeener CHILDERS had the following children:
