SECOND GENERATION

3. George KNIPP was born between 1775 and 1784.(14) He died in Jul 1858. Died at son, John's home after walking from New Castle Indiana. George's exact relationship to this family is questionable. Research indicates that he was in Virginia and Tennessee at the same time as Verner, Phillip, and Adam as evidenced by marriage bonds etc. Adam signed as surety on marriage bond for George and Rebecca on Jan 7, 1809. Verner signed as surety for Catherine Knipp, daughter of Adam Knipp who married Simon Reagle. See Chronology found elsewhere in this book. George is likely a younger brother to Varner. George was a soldier in the War of 1812. He was a tanner by trade. George moved to Tennessee in 1814 and in the following year came to Indiana and stopped at Connersville, a small Indian station on the outposts of the white settlements. In 1821, on the 11 day of March, the father with his wife and several small children, located on the farm now belonging to Dr. W.H. Smith, on Flat Rock. The family remaind here until 1826, when the farm was purchased by the late Dr. H.G. Sexton, and the family removed to a farm now owned by Martin Blacklidge. Here this pioneer prosecuted his farm work in season, and carried on shoe-making in the winter. In 1858, in the month of July, George died at John's home, after having walked from New Castle, In Henry County. In a few days the mother passed away; she died on 1st day of January, 1859. The Indiana Census, Fayette Co., Jackson Township has George Nipp with 3 females under 10, 1 male under 10, and 2 females 10-16. This adds Martha and Anna to his list of children. but there is an extra female under age 10 who doesn't show up in the 1830 census. Could this have been Barbara who was orphaned? George served in the War of 1812.

He was married to Rebecca TOWNSEND in 1809 in Wythe Co. Va. Adam Knipp listed as surety on marriage bond. Rebecca TOWNSEND (1) was born about 1785. She died on 1 Jan 1859 in Rush Co. Virgina. George KNIPP and Rebecca TOWNSEND had the following children:
