James was named after his father. He served in the Civil war. James Monroe is buried in the Walker Roberts Cemetery in Kentucky. James and Rachel settled in Breathitt Co., KY. Although James was a farmer, he also worked on the Railroads. He and his wife Rachel (Farler), could ride the trains for free. They would take a train to Wisconsin and visit Ransom Roberts after he moved up there. A little note from Larry Roberts and Nancy Bustamante (Roberts). They (Jim and Rachel) used to ride up there and go deer hunting. One time when they came back they caught a deer and brought it back with them on the train. Walker Roberts was with them this time and was delighted in the light of them bringing back the deer.
