Obediah Roberts (b. Abt. 1849, d. November 18, 1925)

Obediah Roberts (son of James Roberts and Nancy Caudill) was born Abt. 1849 in Letcher Co. KY, and died November 18, 1925 in Jackson KY. He married (1) Amanda Lockhart. He married (2) Emoline Little on 1868, daughter of Edmund Jr. Little and Eda L. Abrams.

Many stories have been told by Obediah and James about their efforts in the Civil war. (Obediah's name doesn't show up as a enlistee, and there is a James, but there were two James in Breathitt Co., at the time), I don't know if they had actually joined the war or were weekend volunteers. But during the war their father died and their house was burned to the ground by the confederates, because they were union supporters. Nancy and Elizabeth were starving and had to subsist by eating anything they could find, mostly leaves and weeds. The boys came home and loaded everything they had left into two canoes and rowed upstream to Breathitt Co.

James and his two brothers William and Obediah belonged to the Kentucky Militia after the Civil War.
