Notes for WILLIAM CALVIN POUNCEY: William Calvin Pouncey was the son of William W. Pouncey and Winifred Caroline Williams. Willie Pouncey was a tall, thin man with blonde hair and blue eyes. He loved to hunt and quite often fed his large family with the squirrels and turkeys he shot. He used a 36" single barrel shotgun to hunt with and had quite a reputation as a sure shot. He farmed for a living for their large family. The family never owned a car but all climbed in the family wagon on Sunday for church services. Willie was a very kind, tender-hearted father, not much for disciplining the children. That chore he left to Cammie. He liked to sneak a little wine once in a while, and dip snuff, both traits Cammie didn't much approve of. He didn't have much education, could read from the Bible and the Almanac. They were living on McKenzie road in the Friendship Community when Willie died. Butler County 1910 census: Beat 15, Mt Olive District, Pouncey, Wm, age 29, married eight years, wife Cammie age 23 married eight years, four children born, three still living, son Willie K, age 5, daughter Velma K age 3, and daughter Virdie age 1 year and 4 months. Hendricks, Misses Hazel, Pauline and Christine Pouncey, Greenville. Dunklin Funeral Home was in charge. Obituary, Greenville Advodate, Butler County, Alabama In Memory - On Monday, February 26th, at 7:00 o'clock a.m., the sweet spirit of Mr. W. C. Pouncey winged it flight back to the God who gave it. Bro. Pouncey lived his life in Butler County, except for 2 years spent in Conecuh. He was 59 years old. He was loved and respected by his family and friends. Bro Pouncey was ill some 9 days with pneumonia. All was done that loving hands and tender care could do, but to no avail. God knew best, and called him home to be ever with the blest, where there will be no more suffering, no more heartaches, nor goodbyes. Bro Pouncey was a great believer in holiness. He talked and testified holiness wherever he went and to whomever he was with. He was wonderfully saved and sanctified. He shouted and sang praises to God. While confined to his bed, he told his companion and children he was going to Heaven and he wanted their family to be unbroken in Heaven. Oh thanks be to God for testimony like that. We can truly say of Bro. Pouncey like Paul of old: "He has fought a good fight, kept the faith, and has finished his course," and we believe a crown of righteousness is laid up in glory. It seems as if we can hear Bro. Pouncey say: "Weep not for me, dear wife and children, for I will be waiting for thee in glory." The funeral was held at the Friendship Holiness Church Tuesday at 3 pm. The house was overflowing with relatives and friends to pay their last respects to Bro. Pouncey. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Levy Pressley, the Rev. I N Jordan, the Rev. Clarence Till, the Rev. J. E. Till, the Rev. Volmar Owens and the Rev. S. A. Dantzler. His body was laid to rest in the old Friendship cemetery to await the resurrection morn, when the dead in Christ shall arise. He leave to mourn his passing, his wife. Mrs. W. C. Pouncey, of Greenville, Route 1; and 12 children, Mrs. Reuben Mills, Mrs. Kenyon Cooper, Mrs. Wright Ward, Mrs. Johnnie Hall, Keith and Kendrick Pouncey, of Montgomery, Ala; Mrs. J. D. Hendricks, of Greenville; Dewey, Claud, Hazel, Christine and Pauline, all of Greenville, Route 1; also two sisters, Mrs. Felix Dantzler, of Brewton, and Mrs. Henry Thomas of Bushnell, Fla; also a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were sons and son-in-law, Johnson and Dunklin in charge. Dear daddy it is so lonely since you went away, but we know that you are at rest in Jesus, and in sin will never more stray. Dear daddy, you know that we loved you, and we know that you loved us too. So, dear daddy, we know that today you rejoice with the angels in the mansions bright and fair. So rest on, dear daddy, in Jesus, and some day we shall meet thee up there. -- Written by a friend. [Copy in my file] Butler county marriage records # 1 white, 1898 to 1903, page 468 Wm. C. Notes for CAMMIE SUPHRONIA TILL: Cammie had black eyes and dark curly hair. She was the religious one of the family. She made sure the whole family went to church every Sunday. She was just sixteen when they married. Their first baby died at birth. They had twelve more children after that, with the last two being identical twins when she was 41 years old. When she was older, Cammie liked to go the the lake and fish with her daughter Cile. Cile still gets upset thinking about the time she caught her mother with her fish hook when she was casting out her line.
