Notes for HENRY MARVIN HENDRICKS: Henry Marvin born October 4, 1883 was the only surviving son of Thomas David and Eveline Hendricks. He was named for his grandfather Henry Hendrix, but was called "Bud" by the family, and "Honest Bud" by his friends. He married at the age of 22 on February 22, 1906 in CoffeeCounty. His bride was Frances Caroline Bradley, a local girl, the daughter of Jefferson Davis Bradley and Elizabeth Harper. Henry was well thought of in the area, a very lovable man, a wonderful father, and easy going. He was a square dance caller for the local dances. He made a living for his family in many ways. He farmed until 1921 when he moved to Samson and became a drayman. [Freight Hauler] He later ran a store in Samson until a bad storm in 1926 wiped out the cotton crop for local farmers. The farmers could not pay for goods already bought on credit, so he lost the business. He worked in the Cotton Mill in Opp for several years. Then he farmed back in Samson for a while again. Then back to Opp where he ran an Oyster and Fish Bar for several years. At the time of his death he was running a grocery store again. He died at the hospital in Dothan on January 17, 1940, after an operation to remove an obstruction of the bowels. He was buried on an icy cold day in the Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery. The children of Henry and Fannie are: Clara Vester born July 18,1907; Georgia Irene born September 16, 1908; Vera Belle born October 1, 1910; Jeff David born November 1, 1911; Bertha Elizabeth born May 2, 1913; Ila Lee born December 22, 1916; Lillie Pearl born April 20, 1921; and Juanita born October 25,1924. ________________________________________________________ Asbury Methodist Church Coffee County Cemetery Book H.
