The will of Frederick Shouse, dated 18 February 1788, probated 17 March 1788:

"In the name of God, Amen. I Frederick Shouse of Easton in the County of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, mason, being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind memory and understanding (Blessed be God) and calling to mind the morallity of this Life do this Eighteenth day of February In the Year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and eighty eight make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, First I recommend my Soul to God who gave it, and my body to the Earth to be interred in a decent manner; And as to my Worldly Estate I give and bequeath the same in manner and form following, to wit - I do Order and direct that my Just Debts and funeral expenses be honorably paid and satisfied - Item I do give and bequeath unto my grandson John Shouse all my wearing apparel, And to my daughter Mary I do give and bequeath my Bed, Bedstead and Beding whatsoever and my Chest And as to the rest and residue of my Estate and personal whatsoever I do order and direct that the same be sold at public sale by my Executor at any time agreeable to my Heirs, and the neat proceeds thereof, after deducting all disbursements, I do give and bequeath unto my five Children, to wit, Mary the Wife of Michael Yohe, Christian, Henry, Jacob and John to be equally divided amongst them Share and Share alike, And I do hereby empower my Executor herein after named to make execute and deliver to the purchaser of my Real Estate a sufficient Deed or Conveyance in the Law for the same And Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved Son in Law Michael Yohe Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all other and former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this only to be Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year within written.

The will of Friedrich Christoph Schauss was copied incorrectly in the Northampton Will Book Volume 2, page 22, in that his son Christian's name is miscopied as "Christina". The original will is preserved in
File #1235 and gives the name as Christian, which is borne out by the deeds signed by the executor of the will.

"Feb. 20, 1788. In Eastown was buried the aged ("der alte") Frederick Schaus."

Recorded, Will Book 1786-1800, page 22, Northampton County, PA Northampton County SS: On the 17th day of March 1788 Before me John Arndt Esq., Register for the Probate of Wills in and for said County personally came Peter Shnyder and Nicholas Traxel two of the Witnesses to the foregoing Last Will and Testament of Frederick Shouse deceased and the said Peter on Solemn Affirmation and the said Nicholas on his Solemn Oath did respectively depose and say that they were present and did see and hear the said Testator sign seal publish pronounce and declare the same as and for his Last Will and Testament, and that at the doing thereof the said Testator was of sound mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief and also that they this affirmant and deponent together with Robt. Traill subscribed their names as witnesses to the same in the presence and at the request of the said Testator and in the presence of the other. Witness my hand. John Arndt Register.
