Richard Waring who married the daughter of Robert Akerly was first identified in public records as "Sr." in the January 1696 deed of land from Richard Waren, Sr. to his son Richard Waren, Jr.
The Family name was consistently spelled "WARING" in the Brookhaven town records but it began to vary by 1695 in the Oyster Bay Town records. From that date the name is spelled "WAREN" in about half of the town records. Seen mostly in the John Waring/Elizabeth White down line.
