Notes for OLIVE TUTTY: She lived in North Sydney most of her life, then moved to Halifax, married a former North Sydney resident and moved to Bedford NJ. She was very popular, with a warm and artistic nature. She painted, sang and played the piano, and there are several references in the newspaper and in one of the North Sydney town history books of her playing the piano and leading sing-alongs. She was assistant town clerk in North Sydney for many years and in 1927, a copper box was "filled and sealed by a plumbing and heating contractor, Charles Musgrave. Engraved on the top was 'Town of North Sydney, NX, July 1927. Records of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. To be opened July 1, 1967.'[which it was] ...Among the articles Mr. Musgrave preserved were copies of the North Sydney herald, Sydney Post, the Sydney Record, a memorandum typed by miss Olive Tutty, assistant town clerk..." Similar mementoes were added to the box which was again sealed and pub into a bank vault. It will be reopened on July 1, 2017. Her funeral was held at St Matthew-Wesley United in N Sydney, the Wednesday before 25 April 1946. (clipping). |
