6. WILLIAM FRANCIS6 TUTTY (ROBERT5, JOSEPH4, JONATHAN JOHN3, JOHN GEORGE2, WILLIAM1) was born 12 May 1852 in North Sydney NS, and died 01 May 1921 in North Sydney NS. He married AUGUSTA EMMELINE MOORE 19 Nov 1881 in North Sydney C.B. Nova Scotia Presbyterian Church, daughter of JAMES MOORE and ELIZABETH KELLY. She was born 21 Nov 1852 in North Sydney NS, and died 14 Oct 1928 in North Sydney NS.

ILLIAM FRANCIS TUTTY:
Victualler (1901 census). He was C of E, although wife and rest of family listed as Presbyterian in 1901 census. Later ship's chandler. He was a North Sydney city councillor for 5 terms, and street superintendent.

According to his obituary, he and Augusta celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1920, but they don't seem to have been living together until the 1891 census.

His ship's chandlery was in partnership with Yorke Barrington in North Sydney and his obituary said he was "known to mariners everywhere".

His funeral was at St Matthews Church, with arrangements by the Masons, and he was buried at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

UGUSTA EMMELINE MOORE:
Considered one of North Sydney's pioneer residents. Died suddenly in her sleep of heart failure. According to the manager of Lakeside Cemetery, she was living on Queen Street when she died. The cemetery's records said she died on October 15th. Uncle York (her son) made the arrangements and it cost $237.00. Her funeral was conducted by Rev M. Davis.

  Notes for OLIVE TUTTY:
She lived in North Sydney most of her life, then moved to Halifax, married a former North Sydney resident and moved to Bedford NJ. She was very popular, with a warm and artistic nature. She painted, sang and played the piano, and there are several references in the newspaper and in one of the North Sydney town history books of her playing the piano and leading sing-alongs.

She was assistant town clerk in North Sydney for many years and in 1927, a copper box was "filled and sealed by a plumbing and heating contractor, Charles Musgrave. Engraved on the top was 'Town of North Sydney, NX, July 1927. Records of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. To be opened July 1, 1967.'[which it was] ...Among the articles Mr. Musgrave preserved were copies of the North Sydney herald, Sydney Post, the Sydney Record, a memorandum typed by miss Olive Tutty, assistant town clerk..."

Similar mementoes were added to the box which was again sealed and pub into a bank vault. It will be reopened on July 1, 2017.

Her funeral was held at St Matthew-Wesley United in N Sydney, the Wednesday before 25 April 1946. (clipping).
