John Michael Hirn (b. October 24, 1851, d. June 07, 1919)

John Michael Hirn (son of John Michael Hirn and Barbara Mehring) was born October 24, 1851 in Belgium, Ozaukee, Wisconsin, and died June 07, 1919 in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. He married (1) Katherine Barnich on October 28, 1874 in St. Mary's Church, Belgium, Wisconsin, daughter of John Barnich and Anna Mans. He married (2) Anna Schumer on July 20, 1885 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Notes for John Michael Hirn:
Nickname Hanni refers to a shortened version of his name Johann. He was referenced as "Uncle Honey" by his nephews Nick and Albert Hirn.

Was named Administrator of his brother Frank Hirn's estate on January 15, 1901 following the death of Frank's wife Maggie. He later cared for two of the three nephews. Ozaukee County Probate records stored at Port Washington Historical Society and reference the legal documents and the receipts of the estate of Frank and Maggie Hirn.

This marriage is hard to understand because there is little known about it. John's grandson Clarence Hirn said that his grand father was divorced but did not know the details or maybe did not tell them. This being his second marriage two years after the death of his wife Katherine, it is assumed that it was a marriage of convenience.

Some stories say that John was not a very nice man and that Anna tried to poison him and his three surviving boys. Little is known about her or what ever happened to her after the supposed divorce. There are no divorce records in the two surrounding counties where John lived to show that their divorce was ever granted.
