As far as my actual records exist, my grandfather Peter Hopp was born in Russia during the last quarter of the 19th century from a Hopp who probably had emigrated from Germany during the 19th century.
His youngest son, Wilhelm Hopp was born in Samara, Ucrainia in 1909.
After the first WW Peter Hopp and his children came to Free City of Danzig, later West Prussia and finally settled in a small village of Rettgewitz/Lauenburg.
My father, the named Wilhelm Hopp married in 1942 to Gertrud Miottel, originally from that village.
I, myself, was born May 24th, 1944.
My father Wilhelm Hopp died in October 1944 fighting as a German soldier in Italy and now is buried at the soldiers cemetery of Futa near Fiorenza/Italy.
I emigrated in 1962 from Germany to Chile, where I am working as a general physician and am married, have one child, Michael Hopp,born 1983.
