The Taft family started out in New York in 1820 and moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, where they owned a hotel. Later in 1860 they moved to Penn Line, Crawford Co, Pennsylvania and owned a dairy farm. Ira Taft married Prudence Marvin, a daughter of Seth Marvin who lived in Andover, Ashtabula Co, Ohio.
