Major surnames: Chastain, Easom, Eshom, Hudnall, Kirkland, Munday, Ratliff, Smith, Taylor, and Young.
This is a collection of work by many family members who have contributed their time into making a Hudnall ancestral file. Some of this material has been fully documented with sources and citations, additional records have been graciously shared by other Hudnall/Chastain researchers. To the best of my knowledge we can trace John Hudnall, the Ist back to Isle of Wight, a small isle due South and West of Portsmouth, England early 1600's. John Hudnall came with his family to America and settled in Virginia. The Chastain family has been traced back to about 1590 in or near Charost, France. It is said that Pierre Jacob Chastain, the Ist, son of Esteinne Chastain and grandson of Jacques Chastain, was instrumental in gathering together a group of French Hughenots to travel to America for colonization in Virginia. This group travelled aboard the Mary and Ann of London arriving July 12, 1700 at the mouth of the James River. They then moved about 20 miles up-river to settle in Manakin, Virginia, where the group was awarded a 10,000 acre tract of land once occupied by the Monacan Indian Tribe.
