Margaret Story LATTA married Pressly Martin CAIN in April 1857. She
was 18 years old at the time. Five of her seven sons and daughters
were living on her 100th birthday: John A.CAIN, Spanaway, Washington;
Mary Ella Truitt, Oakland; William L. Cain, Oakland; Ralph R. Cain,
Tekama, Nebraska; and Belle Curley, Dixon, Nebraska. All are since
deceased. A son, James P. Cain, preceeded her in death.
Mother Truitt died in 1940 at the age of 80. Grandma was then 102.

Oakland Trbune, Feb. 1938

Margaret Latta Cain came from good sturdy stock -- The Lattas, her
father's people, originated in Belgium in the 17th century, going from
there to Ireland, and then, because of religious persecutionls, to the
United States. The family name on the mother's side was McConnaha,
Irish folks. Tradition has it that six McConnaha brothers acted as
bodyguards for Robert Bruce in the battle of Bannackburn -- three on a
side protecting their leader with battle axes and spears.
Grandma at the time of 100th birthday ahd 23 living grandchildren, 29
great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

(n.b. The Lattas would take exception to this. They claim to be Scots,
not Irish, moved to Ireland against their will by the British. Also
the six brothers, each over 6 feet tall, who stood with the Scotsman
Robert the Bruce were supposedly Lattas, not McConahas).
