Henry Clinton came with his father to Illinois. When he became of age he started out for himself, first working in the lead mines at Galena, Illinois. Then he started prospecting, coming to Grant County, Wisconsin in 1825. Here he discovered lead but as it was some distance from the river and the nearest smelter was at Galena, he had no way of getting it out. He returned to Illinois to buy horses to haul ore to Galena. He bought a six-horse team. While hunting horses he met Adeline Scholl. They married in the fall of 1827 and started at once for Wisconsin. They lived the first winter in an open-faced shelter at Muscalounge. The next summer he built a log cabin in Bushnell Hollow (now a park), near Lancaster, where he lived till after Lois was born. H.C.B. moved back to Muscalounge shortly after the close of the Black Hawk War. The mine payed big for a number of years. Then as the vein of ore went deeper, water began to come in. The largest pump made at this time was ordered from New York and with this he was able to keep the mine free of water and continued to work for several years. Finally ther pump broke, repairs could not be obtained so the mine had to be abandoned. He spent large sums trying to develop another mine. After big losses in mining he turned to farming. OBITUARY.

BEETOWN HONORS THIS MEMORY 0F A
PIONEER MOTHER OF GRANT COUNTY
-MRS.. MARY HINCH.

Friends, neighbors, relatives, so many that the village church was crowded
to its doors, assembled on Sunday afternoon to pay the last tribute of respect to
another good woman, another esteemed friend, who comes to take her final rest among
the many kindred already sleeping in our little ''city of the dead." So many times have
her tears fallen over graves made there-father, mother, husband, children, sisters,
brother, all are sleeping side by side, and now many tears fall for her, the dear, dear
grandma, the devoted, tender mother, the helpful neighbor, the kind, true friend.
Born among the privations and dangers of an unsettled country, the second eldest of a
family of ten, marrying young and rearing, amid many hardships, a large family of her
own, hers has been a wearisome journey. Yet the many burdens were borne with
meekness and christian fortitude. With open hand and generous heart she ever found
time to respond to the call of sickness or distress. To many a sorrowing heart her smile
and gentle tones brought cheer and comfort. Many besides her children rise up and call
her blessed.
"Say not her work is done;
No debt of love or goodness ever dies,
But in the lives of others multiplies;
Say It is just begun"
Mary Helen Bushnell was born at Lancaster, Wis., (Bushnell Hollow) March 11, 1830.
She was the daughter of Henry C. and Adaline Bushnell. On the 11th day of March,
1850 she married to Lionel Brown Hinch. who died March 27, 1887. The union was
blessed with eight children, three of which died in infancy. Those left to mourn her
demise are Mrs.. Laura Brady, Uriah H. Hinch and Mrs.. Adeline Jay, of Bloomington,
E. M. Hinch. of Scott, Iowa, and Mrs. Maud Wright of Beetown. A sister and two
brothers also survive: Mrs. Dotha Whipple of Los Angeles, Cal., C. W. Bushnell of
Coal-dale, Col. and J. H. Bushnell of Brookens, S. D,
The deceased lady was the second white child born in Lancaster. At the time of the
out-break of the Black-Hawk war, the parents took her with her older sister, to the old
stone fort at Prairie du Chien, where they lived for several weeks. Later they went to
the fort at Cassville. After the Indian troubles were over they moved to the lead mines
of Beetown. The greater part of Mrs. Hinch's life was spent at Muscalunge. After the
death of her husband she moved into the village. In 1891 she removed to Bloomington,
making her home mostly with her daughter, Mrs. Jay. Here, full of years, respected and
beloved, she passed into the better land, January 16, 1903.
From the text, "For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of
all countries, and will bring you into your own land," Rev. Shoenfeldt, preached, and
paid a beautiful tribute to such lives as hers. Six grandsons tenderly carried the
beloved form to its final rest.

"Sleep, mother, sleep, with your hands on
your breast,
Poor, weary hands, they needed their rest:
Well have we loved you, God loved you best;
Dear heart, He's given you rest."
