TWO YOUTHS DIE IN STORM MISHAP

Two youths died shortly after 9:00pm yesterday (Mar. 1) when they were apparently electrocuted on the North Bank Road of the Chetco River. The Curry County Sherriffs Office identified them as Allen Edward Robinson and Robert Clinton Jordan both 17.

Robinson and Jordan were driving a pickup truck down the North Bank Road in a heavy rainstorm when they came to a slide. The truck became stuck in the mud about a 1/4 of a mile south of the Don Cameron Bridge and apparently one of the young men got out of the truck and touched a "live" electric wire. The other youth went to his rescue and was also electrocuted.

Sheriff Allen Boice said Jordan and Robinson were on their way to Seaside Hospital in Crescent City where Jordan's wife was expecting a baby.

According to Elmer Jordan, Robert Clinton Jordan was married young, working up Chetco when wife went into labor in town. Came off mountain in storm with brother-in-law, came on road blocked by slide. Brother-in-law attempted to cross slide, was electrocuted by downed wires. Jordan tried to help. Both were killed. Parents: Everett Arthur JORDAN and Norma GIDDINGS.

"Robert Fulton Jordan died Apr. 15, 1906 after being paralyzed for two years at his home near the "Van Campen/Matlick" place, Gardner Ridge. He left a widow and seven children.

According to two of his neighbors, Modesto Payne and Caesar Bravo, a bad storm was raging at the time making travel in the timber dangerous so the body was taken into the field south of the house, buried, and stone piled on the grave."
